Dummies Guide to Self Tanning

Please enlighten me! Grin I'm pale as a ghost and would love to see some more colour especially on my legs. I've never ever used fake tan or tanning lotions and I don't even know where to start with them? Confused I think I'm leaning more towards using tanning lotions as it seems much easier and a lot less messy but I might be wrong! Is is basically a body lotion that helps your skin get darker? Can I use it without having any fake tan on? How often should I be using it and how long can I expect it to last? Can it be used on the face? Thanks Grin

Get some st tropez tanning mouse it's idiot proof I'm proof enough for that :)

Oh and also wear gloves when you do it

I haven't ever used a tanning lotion before so can't really comment on them, but the link below has an easy to follow guide of how to apply tanning foam (which I use)

I use the nip and fab fake tan mousse (it comes in different shades).

I use the Palmers cocoa butter with the gradual tan in. It's enough to take the glare off with a couple of applications, and far less scary than using a proper tanning thing. If builds up over time with each application, so less chance of mistakes and patchy bits. Smells a bit but it fades.

My Top tips:
Put moisturiser on your feet, ankles, knees, elbows and hands first.
If you're very pale use a gradual tan rather than a self tanner as the results won't be too alarming!
Wipe your finger nails, toe nails, inside of wrists and in between your toes with a wet wipe or a damp face cloth afterwards.
Wash your hands thoroughly after you've done it then go back and apply to the tops of the hands/fingers using a fairly dense make up brush.

I've put you off now haven't I? Grin obviously you don't have to follow that but they're the bits that can really grab the colour and can stop it from looking nautical.
If doing your face, wipe over your eyebrows too and the edges of your nostrils 👃 Grin

Buy a good mitt! The Bondi Sands black mitt is the best one I’ve ever used. I use the St Moriz mousse - in general I find mousses less sticky and less tacky than a lotion. To really give your body a good exfoliate the day before, use a Turkish hammam glove from Amazon £6.95.

You could try the tanning drops that you add to your regular face and body moisturisers: I like the Clarins ones.
You can build up to the colour that you want.

I find the lotions rubbish and streaky

St Tropez tanning mousse is brilliant and complete fool proof for a quick boost of colour.

Other than that I use Utan or Fake Bake flawless but you have to sleep in them and wash off the next day. A good tanning mitt is essential and don’t overload the mitt when applying
