Where can I get a diamond reset?

I need to replace my diamond from my engagement ring.waited a long time to do this, it's an overdue 20th wedding anniversary, Xmas and birthday present!

I'm in the south east, is Hatton Garden the best place to go? I'd like to support a local, independent jeweller but I can't really afford to pay over the odds.

Looking for 1/2 carat - how much would I expect to pay - for a good quality stone, i think my previous one was a Vs2?

Thanks.

I was recommended a Hatton Garden jeweller who went on to make a diamond eternity style ring for me and platinum band for DP (for our wedding that didn't happen in May !). He was a lovely guy who took the time to discuss the options, quality of stones and prices. We were really happy with the end result and estimated that the cost was probably 30% less than High St prices. Or in other words I was able to have 30% more ring for the budget. Happy to share his contact details with you if you would like.

Oh and should have said, he does a lot of resetting work too

If you are in the SE I’d wait until the jewellers shops in The Lanes in Brighton start to reopen. Because are so many in one area the prices are very competitive. If you can’t go to Brighton, go to Hatton Garden.

Just a bit of advice - going for sizes of stone that are just off a round number (so for example, 0.9 rather than 1 carat) can save tons of money. People have their heart set on '1 carat' so there is more demand for those stones, but most couldn't tell the difference. So be open to a slight difference in size, I'd go in asking for 'about 0.5 a carat' and ask them what they have in. Keep an open mind when it comes to the quality - again, most people cannot tell the difference between the qualities, esp. with the naked eye.
