Do you think trends will change because of lockdown?

I am sick of my long, straggly hair and I'm getting it bobbed.

I am also ridiculously looking forward to workwear again.

I may keep (what my husband calls) my bible group length hair.

I think some people will keep their casual look from lockdown and others will swing the other way - sequins and 4 inch heels.

TheOptimisticSideofMaybe · 13/06/2020 22:26

So many women seem to be saying they love the no make up. Be interesting to see which way that swings.

@BlackSwan What is bible group length hair?

whatswithtodaytoday · 14/06/2020 07:01

I'm really interested to see what happens - will people stay in joggers and loose clothing, or will it swing the other way back to high heels and cinched in waists? It would make sense for trends to go less casual, as flat shoes and comfy, oversized clothes have been in fashion for a while.

I'm quite looking forward to wearing proper, going out make up again! But I wear a little every day even at home, I prefer it.

WildCherryBlossom · 14/06/2020 07:09

I've been wearing a little make up too. Just mascara and tinted lip balm.

dudsville · 14/06/2020 07:10

I have cropped my hair and think I'll keep that, and I've finally embraced the curly girl method so that's a shift I'll stick with. I've enjoyed not wearing make up but like the pp, I'll return to it when I'm out again. I think I'll maintain the shift towards more relaxed dressing but that's easily done at my work.

AnnaNimmity · 14/06/2020 07:10

I don't think many people will be going back to work in an office any time soon, so won't be buying work wear.

My wardrobe this summer is split between sports wear, working from home gear (I'm still working on that tbh) , sundresses for weekends and (being optimistic) date clothes. No lovely work dresses or work shoes.

I won't change my hair but I've got better at doing pedicures/manicures/grooming at home.

emilybrontescorsett · 14/06/2020 07:17

I've stopped wearing makeup . My hair is so long I just tie it up, I'm going to get it cropped much shorter when I can.
I've started painting my own nails now and again, I used to have regular manicures and gel done at the salon. I also had my lashes done which I think I won't do again.

emilybrontescorsett · 14/06/2020 07:18

In also enjoying wearing more practical clothing.

minniebinnie · 14/06/2020 08:09

I think people will buy less. I've never had to wear smart workwear (thank god) but maybe that will relax?

AnnaNimmity · 14/06/2020 08:41

I can't see that I will be wearing high heels again without work or work meetings to go to.

Even evening shoes are block heeled sandals at the most now. I don't particularly wear stilettos to go out to dinner or cocktail bars.

I actually like work clothes - they were an excuse to dress up.

DancetheBluesAway · 14/06/2020 08:46

I didn't think to wear sports leggings unless I was being sporty Grin
I'm addicted to the comfort and will struggle to go back to jeans for everyday wear.

Floisme · 14/06/2020 09:36

I think the coming recession will have more impact than lockdown.

fizzpopbang123 · 14/06/2020 10:06

I think the coming recession will have more impact than lockdown.

I agree. I think, with the exception of needing less formal workwear in the short term, things will go back to normal. Social distancing is already falling by the wayside as public areas get busier. The government will be desperate for the economy to recover as quickly as possible and be encouraging spending. Retailers are sitting on tons of fast dating stock that needs shifting. I think there will be some fantastic discounts coming our way though.

minniebinnie · 14/06/2020 10:50

Lots of mid range brands are struggling so there will be less choice. Cheap fast fashion or more expensive stuff.

DeterminedLittleBugger · 16/06/2020 09:06

Yeah, personally I think my style will change. My hair has always been long my whole life but during lockdown it’s grown to almost bum length. I’m used to wearing it up for work and realising that I’m just fed up of it and all the effort it takes so for the first time ever I’m seriously considering cutting it to a shoulder length style that I can wear down more and donating the length I cut off to The Little Princess Trust.

Up until now I’ve always been very dresses and heels, like quirky little flowery numbers and irregular choice type heels.

I’m finding myself drawn to more casual/edgy type clothes. Slightly cropped mom jeans with heels or nice dressy trainers, slouchy T-shirt’s and leather biker jackets. Simpler dresses and more of a muted palette (less florals!). I’ve ordered a whole new wardrobe of casual clothes and a couple of maxi dresses that are a bit more grown up and less frilly/quirky.

I’ve been wearing simpler makeup and taking more care of my skin, including my body. I’ve bought some natural looking fake tan which I never used before to give me a bit of a glow.

I just want to look glowy, shiny sleek easy hair, more effortlessly cool and sexy and less fussy and cutesy “quirky pretty” overall.

I really don’t think this would have happened prior to Lockdown. It’s really made me reflect on lots of things, image included.

KaronAVyrus · 16/06/2020 09:13

I definitely cannot wait to get my hair chopped. It’s a straggly, split end mess.

bigcatlittlecatcardboardbox · 16/06/2020 09:18

I'm so interested to see what will change. I've been bleached/waxed/lashed/gelled almost constantly for the best part of six or seven years but my style is very casual (jeans, t shirts and nice trainers or baggy dresses and blazers) so I used to do all of that to keep me looking put together.

Now I'm obviously not having lash extensions and manicures every other week - I HATED it for for the first few weeks and felt so dull, but I fished out some lash curlers and bought a mascara and now actually quite like my natural look. DH is definitely a fan as well.

jay55 · 16/06/2020 09:22

I think non wired bras will have a big comeback.

suggestionsplease1 · 16/06/2020 09:24

I think in 20 years time people are going to go to the hairdressers / barbers and ask for a 'lockdown cut'. It'll be a new fashion trend in time.

emilybrontescorsett · 16/06/2020 09:28

I've also realised that a lot of my clothes are impractical. I have several pairs is superscript pockets, mattered a lot more during lockdown due to walking and not wanting to carry a bag. I've worn my walking boots more than ever.
I think women look younger without heels, tight clothing , make-up and bleached hair. I've been mistaken for my mum's grandaughter!!!! Probably because my hair is tied up and natural and I've been in casual clothes and no make up.

BillywigSting · 16/06/2020 09:46

@28emilybrontescorsett I think you're right about looking younger.

I've been mistaken for a student a few times during lockdown while I've been wearing very casual jeans and t-shirt /sports leggings and runners type stuff. I'm 30 in September and have a fair bit of grey hair (started going grey at 13). I'm 30 in September have a fair bit of grey hair, certainly don't think I still look 21. Just shows how much of a difference in perception clothes can make.

I have taken much better care of my skin and have been getting much more (read: actually enough) sleep lately though so my skin is looking much better than it normally does. Less spots, less redness, less puffiness and the black shadows under my eyes are a bit smaller and lighter.

I'm going to carry on with the getting more sleep where I can, even if it means going to bed with dc at 8 some nights. The difference it makes not going through the day with a cloud of fatigue is quite something.

I might also never wear an underwired bra again. Evil stabby things.

Sports bras are supremely comfortable and the right one can be allowed to peak over necklines and just look like another layer.

I had one that I used for yoga /running.

Now I have four.

midnightstar66 · 16/06/2020 09:50

I met someone for a socially distanced walk/date last week with no make up on. I think before lockdown that idea would have horrified me. I mean part of the reason was I couldn't find it but I was quite happy (and didn't put him off)

PersonaNonGarter · 17/06/2020 14:51

Navy crepe workwear can do one. Heels as well.

Perhaps people will want to wear high heels for meals out and parties, but the work illusion is well and truly shattered. We want comfort for productivity.

ZaZathecat · 17/06/2020 16:48

Skinny jeans will probably die a complete death (I know they've been on their way out for a while, but were still everywhere before lockdown). I certainly haven't bothered to put a pair on in the last 3 months and don't think I'll be that keen to when I eventually go out socialising, I've got too used to comfort!
