Natural alternatives to bio oil ?

I’m loving this stuff - Bio Oil. It’s perfect for my skin, it feels nice and hydrated. However, I know it’s all synthetic stuff. Is there a natural alternative to bio oil ? I’m hoping to find a mixture of natural oils to get the same result - ideas anyone?

Rosehip oil. It is very good for wrinkles, scarring, redness, acne, rehydration, everything. I get mine from the ordinary.

almond oil

Borage oil is lovely, but it smells horrible. Now I know how good it is I don't care about the smell though!

Natural is just marketing term though.
It doesn't make it any better. If bio oil is working why not use that?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 13/06/2020 20:32

Weleda Seabuckthorn

Natural isn’t just a marketing term! What made you say that?
By natural, I meant organic virgin cold pressed oils.

@SiaPR How do you use it? Is it just like Coconut oil/almond oil - Massage generous quantities directly on skin?

@Karmagoat where do you get yours from? Last time I picked up almond oil from Tesco. It was really cheap, but it was awful (I should have known better!)

I slathered my baby bump in almond oil most nights and had my baby a few days ago, no stretch marks or sagging skin, could well be the lucky genes, oil or both though! I really like it, doesn’t smell and sinked in after 5 min. Judy got a big bottle from eBay.

I use almond oil from Holland and Barrett

PlanDeRaccordement · 13/06/2020 22:25

I used camellia oil. It is made from the seeds of green tea.

Superdrug do some nice hair oils that can be used on the body

Natural alternatives to bio oil ?

Any oil. Rosehip, almond, jojoba, argan, marula...stay away from nasty bio oil.

Howzaboutye · 13/06/2020 22:45

Great quality olive oil!
Bio oil is just vaseline with a huge marketing budget.
Any natural oil will be better.
Actually the ALDI miracle oil is fantastic. It's not synthetic and is wonderful on skin and hair.

goosyray · 13/06/2020 22:51

Try sweet almond oil i use it all the time it's a great natural alternative to nasty bio oil .

TooMinty · 13/06/2020 22:54

Stretch marks are genetic, you either get them or you don't, moisturising doesn't make any difference. First pregnancy I used Bio Oil religiously, no stretch marks. Second pregnancy, didn't even have time to shower properly never mind moisturise - no stretch marks. Luck/genetics!

Coconut oil smells nice. Or colloidal oats have medically proven moisturisation properties.

Depends what you want it for.
Sweet Almond- generic oil for skin, hair and as a carrier
Rosehip- face, first signs of ageing. Stinks a bit- which is why skincare companies mix a teeny bit of something nice into it and charge you £25
Argan- generic, stinks to glory but if you can get past that, probably the best there is.
Avocado- very nourishing for very dry etc.

If you just want an oil for adding on to a routine, any of the above are fine. Don't buy fancy schmancy boxed and named stuff if you just want that.

Best thing ever for stretch marks is a Lush massage bar whose name escapes me...it works because it's the combo of the oils plus the massage.

TheCanterburyWhales · 14/06/2020 09:24

Holland and Barrett
TO
Garden of Wisdom
Weleda (I think they do bog standard oils as well as the fancier (but still nicely priced) stuff.
There's another one that was mentioned on here a few years ago that sells oils for mixing but can't remember the name. Big bottles. Mind gone a blank.

Squalane oil - my latest discovery. Very light, sinks in quickly and doesn’t irritate my super sensitive rosacea skin.

Sunbird24 · 14/06/2020 10:15

Palmers do a cocoa butter skin therapy oil that smells like chocolate, it’s really nice but does make me hungry...
