Style blogs: non fast fashion

What are good blogs for style now?
I’m late 40s short and plump. Lost my way due to illness.
Used to follow loads of blogs but they all started to feel wasteful superficial and samey. I don’t buy new clothes anymore and tbh I have way more than I could ever need but really just need some inspiration and also want a massive distraction and self esteem boost following a relationship with a cheater with a preference for younger women

I like Susie So So. She doesn’t blog often but when she does, it’s good. Also Wears My Money.

famousforwrongreason · 12/06/2020 23:21

Thank you @mrslebon will check these. Think I remember susie so so

I love Wears My Money but I think she is very shopping orientated, lots of affiliate links - so really fast fashion, just often at a higher price point. If you want more sustainable clothes, En Brogue might be worth a look.

fizzpopbang123 · 13/06/2020 09:22

Agree, Wears My Money is a massive fashion consumer, has a well paid music industry job to fund designer and high end, as well as being gifted a huge amount (although she does declare it).

Susie So So is better, she has a good eye for detail and spotting what makes something cheap look it (stripes not lining up, dodgy hems etc). Not afraid of alterations.

I used to follow a few, and came on to recommend and now I can't find them! To be honest, so many blogs and insta accounts will be selling you something under the guise of slow fashion, so you need to have your wits about you. They do exist though.

In the absence of my recommendations, I would set aside some time and search insta hashtags like #slowfashion #capsulewardrobe #ethicalfashion - or whatever, or pick someone like enbrogue and search her followers and recommendations. It's a rabbit hole and will bring up a lot of rubbish, but I've found some wonderful accounts this way.

Google came up with this:

labante.co.uk/blogs/news/uk-sustainable-fashion-blogs

most blogs are inherently there to promote sponsored content and affiliate links, therefore it makes more sense for them to promote fast fashion to get more income. Have a look at stylists instead - these have less incentive to promote fast fashion. I like dresslikeaparisian.com/ (I have her book too - it's great, no afiliations by the wya) and another person I can't remember, alison something, she is on insagram and a celebrity stylist, and does a lot of content on for example how to style a white shirt etc.

AnnaNimmity · 13/06/2020 16:31

Oh I like Wears My Money!

AnnaNimmity · 13/06/2020 16:33

I'm reading The Curated Closet OP - it's about creating a capsule wardrobe of clothes that really suit you - a classic wardrobe rather than fast fashion. It's good! (I haven't got to the end stage yet, but it's making me think more about what I buy)

fizzpopbang123 · 13/06/2020 16:34

Oh I like Wears My Money! so do I, but in answer to the OPs question, it's not an appropriate blog to recommend. Quite the opposite in fact.

Sidney · 13/06/2020 16:39

Try Midllifechic - I love its thoughtful style.

I second MidlifeChic

lindyloo57 · 13/06/2020 19:15

I like Alyson Walsh and midlife chic, there's lots I have stopped following for reasons as above, I love the one about the capsule wardrobe.

BusStopHottie · 13/06/2020 20:00

Midlifechic if you can stomach her passive aggressive writing style!!!

SebandAlice · 13/06/2020 21:49

The Fashionbugblog

Breadandroses1 · 13/06/2020 22:15

Enbrogue
I bought it from the charity shop

ThatShallot · 13/06/2020 22:42

I like blog livelovesarablog for inspiration, she's on Instagram, in her 40s, a Mum, not ostentatious and is always clear when she promotes sites.

I couldn't wear a lot of the shapes and styles that she chooses but I like her ideas. It encourages me to look at my own wardrobe and style and consider different ways of wearing things.

She's Canadian so some of the shops she recommends aren't available here or would come with high import taxes. Though It's true that she does update regularly a lot of her purchases are second hand or new and ethical. She sells stuff on so it doesn't seem like she has a huge wardrobe at any one time.

Almahart · 14/06/2020 12:12

I love Jenny Sue Garcia on Instagram for ideas of how to style things.

quarentini · 14/06/2020 18:14

I like Erica Davis

famousforwrongreason · 14/06/2020 23:18

Wow! Loads here. Thanks all Smile

Also Knickers Models Own on Instagram, she buys from charity shops and her styling is great. Second Jenny Sue Garcia for styling ideas, her videos are fab (although her colouring and body shape are completely different from mine, she still gives me good ideas).

I like Erica Davies a lot but she's not really a slow fashion/capsule wardrobe type. Alyson Walsh/That's Not My Age is excellent, also Anna Berkeley. Both take a more considered approach and aren't so focused on selling clothes.
