Should I try self waxing or will this break me?

I can’t comment on home waxing, l’ve only ever been waxed in a salon.

I whip the lot off. For home, l use Veet sensitive (do the spot test first!) but instead of the plastic thingy they provide, then use a razor to finish off. I do this once a week and add “top up shaves” using hair conditioner when in the shower. I find conditioner much better than shower gels, shaving gels etc. The razor glides.

It’s fine although I only do ‘sides’, not sure I could wax my own ahem undercarriage!
I get the veet or nair wax strips, and use baby oil to clean any wax residue away, but there isn’t really only.

Philips Lumea is life changing. I now shave monthly!

Popc0rn · 12/06/2020 15:55

Ditto with the Phillip's lumea, best thing I ever bought!

Popc0rn · 12/06/2020 16:01

Mine was about £300 a few years ago, which is expensive, but I looked at it as an investment. A Brazilian wax cost me £25 (and was flipping painful!), so it's actually saved me money in the long run.

vaz119 · 14/06/2020 16:34

I bought the cheapest lumea (about £150) and if it broke I'd buy another in a minute!

I used to go for 5 weekly Hollywood waxes.

vaz119 · 14/06/2020 16:37

I have previously also attempted home waxing (with the proper melting pot from Sally's)

It did the job (much cheaper than a salon) but would take me 3 times as long. Partly because I had to become a contortionist and partly because I had to psyche myself up between each strip 🤣

Sogoodfeelssobad · 14/06/2020 16:51

vaz119 Can I ask what model you bought? £150 is a bit more reachable than £300!

mrslebon · 14/06/2020 17:44

I use the Veet strips but now I want a Lumea!

Bluewavescrashing · 14/06/2020 17:53

I got a corded essential lumea 2 years ago. It still works and I've had fab results. It was £129.

vaz119 · 14/06/2020 19:07

It's the smaller corded version. I bought it for bikini line and under arms so the smaller window didn't bother me. The corded version is cheaper than the cordless version but it no problem at all.

I've probably had it a good 2 years and still works perfectly.

vaz119 · 14/06/2020 19:11

Like @Bluewavescrashing... The one I bought was called the essential

Bluewavescrashing · 14/06/2020 20:45

I can't say the cord is that annoying, it doesn't get in the way really. There have been lots of posts about problems with the cordless models not recharging so I went with the corded option.

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 14/06/2020 20:50

Butane blow lamp - don't hold too close!

Orlwayshappy · 14/06/2020 20:50

Get yourself a Philips lumea honestly was a game changer for me I never go for Proffesional waxes anymore

Amyheadache · 14/06/2020 21:53

Another Lumea fan here! I always wax at home using veet biking strips but only have to top up stray hairs every other month now x
