Is there anything I can do about this hairline?

I’ve asked hairdressers but they say it’s just new hair.

I don’t think it is as it never seems to grow beyond my chin and has been a problem since my early teens. From 10 - 12 I used to pull my hair out due to a period of childhood trauma and I think it’s the regrow from that. It also changed the shape of my hairline which is now quite far back. I just hate it and it’s a reminder of an awful time.

My hair is long and I don’t particularly want to cut it as short as it would have to be to blend it all in.

I just have these horrible wiry hairs all the time that stick up. If I straighten them they stick out and they look like broken hair.

I take hair supplements and iron for anaemia.

Is there anything I can do or do I just need to resign myself to this awful hair? In the picture I’ve made it stand up and usually comb it back but it still has a tendency to spring back up in humidity/rain/wind.

I tried a fringe but it didn’t suit my face.

Is there anything I can do about this hairline?

I have a similar problem. My hair is very fine and curly. When i straighten it and its windy/humid, then i end up looking like your photo.
When i style it curly its a bit better, vecause i use quite a bit of gel to keep everything in place.

Ive never pulled out hair or anything. My hair is just so fine, that it keeps breaking off when im not careful with brushing. And these front ones seem to be the most sensitive, so they are basically constantly regrowing.
My hair has been like this for as long as i remember. Havent figured out a solution yet. Some months its better, some is worse.

You can get a little stick called hair feel and it looks like a maacara tube. Wouldn't solve the problem but could help to hold down those hairs when you do your hair.

k1233 · 10/06/2020 12:05

Have you tried hair lacquer to stick it down?

Helpthefrizz · 10/06/2020 12:07

Thank you!

Good in a way to know it’s not just me.

I haven’t heard of the hair mascara stuff so I will try and get hold of that.

Yes I’ve tried hairspray. I don’t like using it and it’s not that effective. Gel spray works but then my hair goes flat and greasy quickly.

Hairspray on a hairbrush then run through the short hairs and smooth against the rest of your hair with the help of your hand. It's normal to have some shorter hairs around your hairline which are never destined to grow as long as the rest.

oohnicevase · 10/06/2020 12:08

Can't you just use some product to flatten them down and stay there ?

wowfudge · 10/06/2020 12:08

X post with you OP. That's my suggestion done with!

Brassicas · 10/06/2020 12:13

I have this problem too, I haven't found a complete solution but I found spraying through Revlon Uniq1/one (sorry can't remember how it is spelled) when my hair is wet then blow dry and straighten helps a bit and my hair looks smoother. It is in a red bottle.

HappyAsASandboy · 10/06/2020 12:14

Do you tie your hair back a lot? The length of the short bits looks to me like it's snapping off at the point it would go into a hair elastic for a pony tail.

If you do tie your hair back a lot, try using a more gentle elastic (I like the coiled ones) and tying less tightly so you don't put the front bits under so much stress pulling them back tightly.

k1233 · 10/06/2020 12:14

Lacquer super hold holds way better than hairspray. Hairspray doesn't work on my hair, lacquer on the other hand does a pretty good job. I've got fine, curly hair and a lot of it, so shitty little fly aways are something I've got practice with.

Helpthefrizz · 10/06/2020 12:15

Thanks so much everyone,

I’ve never tried hairspray on a brush, I’ll try that with a bristle or back combing brush and see if that works.

What kind of product? Like a wax or paste?

My Mum uses that Red One stuff I’ll ask if I can borrow it.

I have to tie my hair back for work but I tend to use damage free clips and hair ties and never pull the front tightly back. I haven’t used elastic/rubber type ties for at least 5 years and always keep the front soft.

Have to admit to not knowing what Lacquer is, I thought it was just hairspray like Elnett Blush.

wowfudge · 10/06/2020 12:25

I thought lacquer was just another name for hairspray, perhaps a more traditional type than the likes of Elnett which is supposed to brush out.

anxietrist · 10/06/2020 12:33

I think a professional keratin treatment would work well on your hair. It smooths it out.

oohnicevase · 10/06/2020 13:49

I think pretty much any product would work if put in wet hair but some sort of styling cream that didn't dry wet look or crunchy .

k1233 · 10/06/2020 23:26

Lacquer is a way stronger type of hairspray. Go for maximum hold!

MrDarcysMa · 11/06/2020 09:33

just because your hair doesn't grow long does not mean it's not new hair. everyone's hair grows to a certain length individual to them - you're is obviously shorter, but we lose so much hair naturally (look on your hair brush!) you'd be bald if you didn't grow new hair.
I Have the same issue around my hairline, drives me mad but also I take it as a positive sign that I have new hair growing so try not to let it bother me.
Have you tried changing your hair style? Mine looks terrible when it's in a top knot (Miss Trunchbull vibes) so I know wear it in a low bun with a centre parting as it's not as visible that way. You've got gravity working against you in that style so they're going to pop out.
I also blow dry them down on a morning when I've washed my hair.

Helpthefrizz · 11/06/2020 10:10

@MrDarcysMa It’s only the front frizzy bits that don’t grow long, they always seem to be between one inch and down to my chin, like a frizz halo. The rest of my hair can grow right down to my knees! It’s usually mid back length. I don’t wear my hair like the picture, I only did that for the picture to make the frizz halo more obvious. I’d never go out like that lol! I do lots of different hairstyles but they always seem to pop out. So annoying.

I’ll look into professional keratin treatments as a future plan.
