Clothes for breastfeeding

Can anyone lead me to some clothes suitable for breastfeeding in that don't cost the earth? I have a very very tight budget but so many of my clothes are crew neck / totally unsuitable. I seem to remember that with DC1 I did a lot of wearing cheap strap of tops then pulling T-shirt up and strap it top down, but it wasn't a brilliant solution and because it was six years ago those tops have all but fallen apart now.

I need some staples that will be easy to feed in and that I can combine together to create some sort of capsule wardrobe. I think I'm also bigger now than I was last time Hmm which means some of the stuff I wore last time now doesn't fit. Extra hard that I can't try anything on! And all the feeding-specific stuff seems quite pricey.

I bought 3 tops from NEXT that were about £20 each. I have worn them a lot.

But tbh I find the vest under any normal top works for me. I found there was very little for feeding that wasn’t massive for maternity too.

Check out the Facebook group 'Can I breastfeed in it?' So useful.

Just shove baby up your T-shirt! Once you get the hang of it it really makes sense. You don't have to undo or open your clothes. Think of it a bit like stuffing a mini hot water bottle up your jumper/blouse/t-shirt. Baby latches on just fine and you are completely discreet and nobody can see your body. The only giveaway is the suckling content baby noises.

This is similar to what I have

Come join us on “can I breastfeed in it” on Facebook and check out the website HappyMama, nice bits there and very reasonable.

I had a couple of these which you can wear under any top.

I also bought tops from h and m and ASOS has some nice pieces too

I got a couple of these vests from b shirt and found them really useful.

Thank you all! Hadn't come across that Facebook group - will check it out, and the other places.

Definitely Happy Mama. I lived in their stuff for a year and it was sometimes as little as a fiver for a top.

frenchfancy55 · 07/06/2020 21:37

This time around I bought a few of these from ASOS and just wore them under whatever top I liked - I could pull it up and my stomach was covered so I felt comfortable

Last year new look had some tops but like PP said they're on the big tenty side because they're maternity too.

With lockdown I'm only feeding at home so suitable clothes and discretion are not needed Grin

shittingthreeeyedraven · 07/06/2020 21:43

I like the h and m feeding vests, they unclip so easy access and have a built in support so no need to wear a bra, esp in those early rock hard days! I fact, I’ve lived in the since lockdown started, not for feeding, just for comfort

JuneWind · 07/06/2020 21:46

Hi OP,

I got some really decent and pretty cheap breastfeeding tops from H&M and New Look. Fairly plain t-shirt and vest styles which I could then dress up if needed, wearing with a nice shirt over the top etc. Am still using them a year later!

Roseability18 · 07/06/2020 22:05

I had a few different styles of breastfeeding tops but genuinely found the best solution (comfy and flashed the least flesh) was the strappy vest under another top. These ones from Marks are nice and stretchy and have lasted really well.

The only time I preferred the ‘breastfeeding’ tops was in the very hot weather, when 2 layers was too warm. My favourite was a B-shirt but they are expensive and I didn’t find them as discreet with a wriggly baby popping on and off!

TooMinty · 07/06/2020 22:09

I had a few wrap top things from H&M maternity but honestly the cheap stretchy vest top under another top was my go to. A couple of dresses with buttons but they weren't specifically for breastfeeding, think I got them from Fatface

GoulashSoup · 07/06/2020 22:24

From the “can I breast feed in it” fb group I discovered that Amazon had some really cheap nursing clothes. I just did one up one down with my first but really liked having a couple of actual feeding dresses for summer where I was too hot to layer and hold a sweaty baby.

this sort of thing

dress

another dress

They can take a bit of time to come but I found them nice soft stretchy fabrics.

rescuecat · 07/06/2020 23:48

I tend to look got anything with a buttons, v necks etc. I find normal vests fine as they're often stretchy so can just pull down to get boob out. Lots of H&M clothes are feeding friendly and cheap.
