Facial hair

I'm struggling with the amount of facial hair I have. I'm 35 and I'm sprouting new hairs daily all over my chin and lip plus loads of peach fuzz. I pluck and trim with small scissors but it's not enough. Can anyone advise on what they do? I've looked at the jml flawless and it's got good reviews on argos but the reviews are probably from when it's first been bought and used a couple of times but it might not be effective after a while?
Anyway.. any advice is most welcome!

God i feel your pain! Im 40 and it dosent get easier. I use hollywood browser they are fab google them! You can use on facial hair/peach fuzz and eyebrows. I used the nono for yrs but thought this was complete waste of money!

chipsandpeas · 05/06/2020 23:52

i shave and use a IPL its the remington i have, some hairs go white but most have not come back through again

PermanentTemporary · 05/06/2020 23:54

I'm another who plucks, shaves and uses a Phillip's Lumea. I'm 51 with PCOS and would have a patchy but noticeably full and dark beard and tache if I didn't do all this, and I don't want that.

Mnthrowaway20202 · 05/06/2020 23:56

I wax my upper lip. I used to wax the peach fuzz elsewhere but haven’t been during lockdown as it’s not that visible (luckily)

taxiformum · 06/06/2020 08:35

Ok thank you so much for the replies. I once went for a full face threading and loved the result but it literally all the grew back worse in about 4 days!! Will have a look online at products you guys have mentioned

Have you got a hormonal condition?.

LockdownLucie · 06/06/2020 08:55

I was getting lip professionally waxed and plucking stray chin hairs prior to lockdown. Now I am continuing plucking stray chin hairs and with lip I have been using some sensitive skin cream I think its something like Nair (results are fab) but now trying alternating using this with Joleen cream bleach.

I've just ordered the Hollywood Browzer duo, seems to have all good reviews on Amazon. There were lots of cheaper generic ones but I'm terrified of cutting my face. Hopefully it works, I have awful peach fuzz.

taxiformum · 06/06/2020 09:29

No hormonal condition (that I'm aware of) but it's definitely getting worse so it might be worth me asking the GP. Yeah I've just looked at the Hollywood Duo browzer and ordered it. 🤞🏼

I'm 45 and just pluck mine as they come but only on my chin . You can get a little razor thing for facial hair that ive seen videos of people ' shaving ' their faces so you aren't the only one .

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/06/2020 09:58

See your dr, your a bit young for chin hairs.

Justtakeatowel · 06/06/2020 11:23

@Fluffycloudland77 really? I think most woman are getting a few by this age!

MehMehMeow · 06/06/2020 11:31

@fluffycloudland77 I was getting chin hairs at 28! (But I do have PCOS)

I have a Lumea, and unfortunately for me it’s done very little I’m currently trying a five day cycle Sad I could probably grow stubble quicker than DH

The JML Flawless wears out very quickly and is too expensive for what it is. You can find similar on AliExpress shipping from China for about £5

I use the Tinkle facial razors which are about £5 delivered on Amazon or cheaper on AliExpress or eBay. It might just be me, but I find they work better after skin cleaning and a shower.

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/06/2020 11:43

I have pcos too and didn’t start that young.

We don’t have the hormone levels to grow chin hairs till oestrogen drops off at menopause.

thisnthat · 06/06/2020 12:15

Lumea has been v effective for me on dark upper lip / chin hairs. I’ve had them since my 20s (no pcos etc) and it has been my saviour.
With the peach fuzz - check your skin care ingredients - quite a few serums etc include castor oil and this stimulates hair growth so avoid anything that includes it, it definitely makes peach fuzz worse for me.

PermanentTemporary · 06/06/2020 20:03

I have a friend who had dark facial hair from adolescence and had about three years of twice-weekly electrolysis before it was clear. I got really hairy around 40 but I'm still menstruating at over 50.

Justtakeatowel · 06/06/2020 20:29

@Fluffycloudland77 but I had chin hairs in my late 20s and didn’t have children until my 30s! No issue conceiving either so can’t think that’s true for all. My mum also had chin hairs in her 20s but had a late menopause

Grumpasaurus · 06/06/2020 20:45

@Fluffycloudland77 ha! You live in a different world to me. I have symptomatic PCOS- hirsutism is one of the main symptoms of PCOS- and could very easily grows beard if I didn't pluck!

I tried the IPL and it worked on everywhere but my face- those hormones were clearly too much!

Diverseduvet · 06/06/2020 20:46

I have tried different methods in the past, with varied results. Now a use a spring thing with two handles that get hairs out as they appear. I use Tweezer Man tweezers for the odd one that gets missed. Hollowood thingy for peach fuzz when I can be bothered. The spring thing is Chinese and a couple of quid on Amazon. I did see something similar in Boots before lockdown, but cost much more.

ChequerBoard · 06/06/2020 21:06

I have abundant facial hair. I've tried laser and all sorts of other methods of removal over the years. Pre lockdown I was having full facial threading every 2 weeks and plucking in between appointments to keep my beard at bay.

I had a facial epilator tool from Philips but it was battery powered (ate a battery on every use) and pretty gutless. I searched for something more powerful and bought this rechargeable facial epilator tool from eBay a few weeks ago. It is brilliant - I can epilate my face, chin and neck achieving pretty similar results to my professional threading appointments. I still pluck the odd stubborn hair but my stress over facial hair and the time spent dealing with it is much reduced!

I've had some chin hair since I was about 18, it's just my generics, no health issues. It's absolutely not the case that being hairy is always caused by ill health. Ofc speak to your GP if you're concerned at all though.

I usually get a full face thread every month or so and in between I will pluck any rogues and/or use the JML flawless. The flawless is good, it's painless and pretty quick and decent at getting hairs and leaves a decent finish. It's not as good as threading but it's ok. Im v hairy and had to stop getting threaded whilst on isotretinoin so just been plucking any huge rogue ones and using the JML flawless and managing ok. Can't wait to be able to get threaded again though. If you liked threading I would maybe try it again with a different threader too once lockdown is lifted as the results depend a lot on the practitioner, Ive had a few crap ones before.

MeadowHay · 06/06/2020 21:12

I should add that I have middle Eastern heritage - all the women on that side of the family are 'hairy' compared to Western standards and all had chin hair etc by late teens/early twenties. Middle Eastern women don't all have PCOS or anything, it's just our genetics I guess.
