Breast implants am I too old?

Hi all,

I live in Northern Ireland and at 43 I am considering breast implants.

Has anyone any advice, knowledge of local hospitals or surgeons?

Am I too old for them?

I would highly recommend this surgeon. Not only is he a great surgeon but has a great way with him and is very honest, he won't accept you merely for the money. He does work in Ballykelly (private) hospital and the Ulster.

Different perspective: if you had implants 10 years ago, would you be considering having them removed now because you're too old for them?

If you're not comfortable with 'the look' in the longer term - don't get them.

Well if you were going for Katie Price style implants anyone is too old for that dated aesthetic, very early noughties, if you are just going for implants so you feel more in proportion or to fill sagging breasts then no one is too old.

I wouldn't. It's quite a surgery. I've had a mastectomy due to breast cancer and was offered a reconstruction which I declined. I've not regretted my decision. I actually had a reoccurrence amongst the scars which might have been difficult to spot with an implant in the way.

Bras can do a lot to alter the way you look. Other than that I think being as fit and healthy as possible is the best way to look after your appearance.

Made fun off by my family since forever my sister's were all blessed with a good set!!
I've had 5 kids and when I was pregnant I had boobs that I absolutely loved.
I am one of those sickening people who cannot put weight on.
I'm in a really good place right now and want to do something for me.

You're never too old to do something that will make you happy. Go for it.

Would you know Cost? I have had a look at the link and that place was on my list but it's the distance and the drive home when it's done and dusted then the follow up.... I think 10 days later

Do what you feel is best for you but do consider that you may have to go through more surgery in 10, 20 years time for replacements or removal, would you want to put your body through more trauma the older you get?

As an alternative could I suggest that you consider therapy to look at the issues you have around body image. Perhaps you could learn to love the body that you are in. Quoting someone, your body houses your soul. Take good care of it hugs x

Don't underestimate recovery. My mastectomy wasn't particularly painful but I was stiff and I had to wear a drain for a week. The woman in the bed next to me had a double mastectomy and reconstruction. She had to wear two drains but felt very sore and faint afterwards. You probably wouldn't want to drive.

I had a mastectomy in March . I was supposed to have immediate reconstruction from my abdomen but that was pulled as the hospital wanted me in and out as fast as possible .
I had a skin saver implant so I can have reconstruction when Covid19 allows .
The implant is still uncomfortable and I am still trying to find a position to sleep in that feels right .
I wish I had just had a simple mastectomy .
In fact am thinking of having implant removed and no reconstruction and instead of a lift and reduction on second side am considering a mastectomy on that side as well.
Having said all that maybe permanent implants are more comfy I just know that mine is too firm and solid and feels alien !

If you get a good surgeon and are realistic with the implant size 'the look' will be like natural breasts.

I had it done a four years ago and not even my close family have noticed, even when I've worn a skimpy bikini. I'd been wearing a heavily padded bra for so long that they have just assumed it is naturally me.

@Nosignal77 sorry I have no idea about the cost, he is my dc's surgeon so obviously done on the NHS (and not in any way related to breasts!) I would phone his secretary, she will be able to give you a ballpark figure I imagine. But yes, you need to think of someone localish for the follow up appointments unless you have someone to drive you.

@Nosignal77 I’ve had two breast implant surgery’s. Both times would of been impossible to drive myself home straight after surgery, not due to pain but arm movements were restricted - wouldn’t of been able to change gears that sort of thing. You might also still feel the effects of the strong pain medication and anesthetic the following day, I know I felt very out of it still. Follow up appointments for both surgery’s a week or so later I was able to drive myself but was healing quickly.

I know with some cosmetic surgery companies they provide transport. I used the hospital group for my second surgery they provided me with a driver home to my door - additional cost.

I don't think anyone would ever regret a nice 34B.

Look at Gwen Stefani. She got smallish ones and nobody has even noticed except those of us ancient to know how flat she was back in the day. That's the way to do it.

I would agree that you wouldn't want to drive yourself home after the op. However, I had no pain to speak of. They gave me a couple of boxes of codeine to take home which I still have unopened. I was also able to drive myself to the follow up appointments. It was all very straightforward.

I didn't use one of the cosmetic surgery companies. I did some research and found a surgeon who seemed to be on the same wavelength as me (as in the natural look) and went direct to him. I wasn't disappointed.
