Anyone else hairdresser put their prices up?

*Else's

Mine's added almost 50% onto the cut and colour I usually have Shock Unfortunately that means I'll either be having my hair done half as often, or buying a wig Confused

I think hairdressers will be shooting themselves in the foot if they do this given that we are moving into difficult economic times. Also a lot of people have realised how much they spend at the hairdressers as well as many having had a go at colouring their own hair during lock down (and tried out the likes of e-salon).

My mum just pointed out that maybe my hairdresser had under-declared earnings previously ... anything's possible I suppose. I do feel a big hike in prices can only be damaging. If I wanted to pay those prices I would go to a salon and have the full experience rather than rinsing my own hair over the bath etc!

I suspect they will have to have fewer customers per day to allow for all the cleaning between customers, plus salons will have fewer chairs, and yet rent and rates etc stay the same. I would expect prices to rise - not sure as much as 50% but some.

Graffitiqueen · 03/06/2020 22:40

Of course prices will rise. They'll be able to see fewer customers per day.

Mojitomogul · 03/06/2020 22:41

Ouch. 50% is just too much. Can understand if they need to increase price because of cleaning time in between clients, but that is a very high jump. If anything, I will be returning for haircuts every 3 or 4 months, but have really enjoyed doing my own colour during lockdown. It's going to save me masses in the long run!

Beautiful3 · 03/06/2020 22:51

Wow 50% is a lot! Did they make you aware of the price hike beforehand, or tell you afterwards? If mine went up by that much, I would be able to afford to go anymore!

blueskys72 · 03/06/2020 22:57

It's a mobile hairdresser so she won't be seeing any fewer clients per day. I've just seen the new prices on FB - she's not actually doing appts until next month. Guess I'll have to stretch a few more weeks between appointments so it works out the same over the year.

I had a massive gas/electric direct debit increase today too (all of us at home using laptops all day) so I'm feeling a bit poor!

I imagine at the beginning people will be so desperate, they'll pay it but then her prices will tail off with demand.

Sal1977 · 03/06/2020 23:19

Not sure about mobile, but in our salon we'll have far fewer clients per day, plus the extra cleaning and hygiene products were having to buy and PPE that we're going to have to wear and provide is really expensive.

The extra is not going in our pockets sadly.

Richlyfruited · 04/06/2020 10:42

Mine has but totally understand it. She's a mobile and will have significant extra washing costs and expenses according to the back to work plan she sent around.

I'll pay her anything she asks tbh as I'll be so pleased when she can finally get me in for an appointment Grin
