New Look. Not a brand I normally would go for. But should I?!

I’m morning the demise of Oasis and more importantly Warehouse where I have got lovely summer frocks in the past.

I don’t have the budget really for Hush or Jigsaw, especially not for summer frocks that get stained with ice cream/sun cream (I have young kids) and don’t last that well from one year to the next, however much I’m not into fast fashion.

I’m 43. I would have assumed New Look waaasy too young for me.

But I just had a look and they have some pretty dresses, obviously well priced.

Not all Polyester either which I had assumed they would be.

Should I take the plunge and try a couple of things or will they be just WRONG at my (not-very-advanced) age?!

Char1ey, that’s the weird thing, I shop at H&M a lot and have never thought it’s too ‘young’ or unsuitable... maybe I have New Look in my head as something it perhaps was 15 years ago? Did they re-brand?!

The green dress is exactly the sort of thing I'd wear. I don't consider it bland btw.

WhatWouldChristineCagneyDo · 03/06/2020 18:22

The sizing is all over the place IME.

I'm reasonable slim with 32E boobs and a 27 inch waist and end up taking their size 6, even their size 6 trousers & jeans are often gaping round the middle. There's no way on earth that someone my size should be fitting in a size 6. It's a total crap shoot.

I don't like the shoes at all, horrible sweaty stiff plastic things.

lindyloo57 · 03/06/2020 18:34

I like the black smock dress, but with big boobs it will make me look pregnant.

NancyPickford · 03/06/2020 18:34

To the poster who said they weren't good for those with ample bosoms - I'm a GG gal and I find they fit fine. I'm very, very ancient, but I can always find something appropriate in New Look.

Kochicoo · 03/06/2020 18:37

I've also got that black smock dress (but in Tall) and it's an oversized design so you can easily go down a size and it'll still be a bit loose. Really nice though.

If you want cheap dresses look at mountain warehouse they often have a sale and discount codes and despite being an outdoors store. There dresses are great and come with pockets.

One of my all time favourite pairs of jeans are from new look (via charity shop as I’ve been trying to buy mainly pre owned the last few years).
I also have a few other bits from there, mainly plain t shirts. I find the clothes are of similar quality to most fast fashion brands and supermarket clothes. Some items are great and others are not so great. Lots of cheap fabric but the odd gem.

I do (Well did before lockdown) go in to New Look regularly as DD(10) likes their 915 range. I would have a look at the clothes for me and always found plenty of things I would be happy to wear.

Char1ey · 03/06/2020 18:54

I don’t think it re-branded!
Maybe you’re like me - I stopped shopping there about 5 yrs ago, when the shops were full off teenagers and I felt really out of place.
Since Lockdown, and needing a new summer wardrobe, I resorted to shopping online... on a budget.... maybe that explains it!!
Not fighting your way through a load of mess of a shop floor, with a load of fit young teenagers to contend with in the changing rooms!!
Possible explanation maybe 🤷‍♀️

I’m most definitely not young. I’ve got the blue leopard print dress and it’s comfortable and perfect for everyday. Looks great with sandals on warm days and trainers on a day like today. My only complaint is the lack of pockets.

Batfinklestein · 03/06/2020 19:05

I’ve got the green one and it’s lovely!
I’m a curvy (big boobs & bum) hourglass size 10, and the 10 is fine on me, so would hopefully be ok for you too.

JufusMum · 03/06/2020 19:08

I’m 44 and a size 16. I buy almost all my clothes from New Look and have done for years. Agree some items are a bit young or skimpy but I choose carefully. I love their jeans and wouldn’t buy them anywhere else.

MinesaPinot · 03/06/2020 20:29

I'll be 58 at the end of August and I have no problem in buying from New Look. I'm fact we went round to friends yesterday and I wore a leopard print flowing maxi dress that I bought from there last year. I like their shoes as well. It's a great shop.
