What are your teenage boys wearing?

I'm looking for some tips for my 14 year old. He has ASD so hates getting new clothes. He's worn the same style of jeans since he was 6 but they don't make them any bigger.
Not keen on any big logos or branding, nothing that stands out, has to be soft and not scratchy. He has a couple of band Tshirts he likes wearing but mostly likes plain.
I'd like him to look at least a bit stylish, whereas he couldn't care less. Either way, he's grown out of all his favourites and needs new things - even though he insists he doesn't. I think I'm going to have to lead the way here...
Tricky size to shop for too - between kids and adults, and growing so fast!
Any pointers appreciated - even if its just where to shop or what brands your lads wear.

One lives in hoodies/joggers from gap men and jack wills

Other wears Levi’s, fjallraven, jack wills

duletty · 01/06/2020 22:28

They both wear them for comfort and the jw jumpers /hoodies are soft...

They are 13 and 15

frugalkitty · 01/06/2020 23:27

Jack Wills t-shirts are soft and wash well, but we buy from an outlet shop so I'm not sure how expensive they are full price. If he's not into logos and designer stuff yet then make the most of it! Next go upto age 16 in boys wear which mean trousers and jeans usually fit well. That stage just before men's clothes is tricky. They stay lean for ages even though height and frame wise they need men's clothes.
Asda plain men's sweatshirts are soft and also wash well, you could try a men's small depending on how tall your son is. But sportswear is ok trend-wise and there's lots of choice in joggers/trackies etc. Next might be good to start in terms of not having to actually go into shops and being able to return things quite easily.

Llareggub · 01/06/2020 23:36

Mine will only wear joggers, tees and hoodies. He will wear a brand called NICCE, Champion and North Face. Nike trainers. Thick socks. That’s really about it. He refuses jeans and thinking about it I don’t think I’ve seen him in anything else apart from his school uniform.

It’s all from JD Sports. He’s 13 and v tall so I have to buy men’s. It’s extortionate. I nearly fainted at the cost of his trainers when he got too big for the child range.

LeGrandBleu · 02/06/2020 02:01

H&M and Zara adult men section are quite good for plain, soft and stylish at the same time. Both have the organic cotton range . DS1 hates any logo, stripe, and buys chinos, t-shirts and Bermudas from there.
The XS size should be ok for teens, both my DSs have been shopping there since they were 13 but they are tall. Have a look.

DungballInADress · 02/06/2020 04:34

Hes 12 but tall and just starting to take interest in what he wears. Also has eczema so have to be careful with fabrics.
Most of his clothes are currently H&M with a few bits of Adidas thrown in. I get a lot of nice basic bits from M&M Direct online as well.

JingleCatJingle · 02/06/2020 07:05

Uniqlo for T-shirts, H&M for skinny jeans.

boredboredboredboredbored · 02/06/2020 07:18

My 15 year old Ds tends to wear white converse trainers, denim shorts/slim fitting jeans and t-shirts. He likes brands but will also wear basic stuff from H&M.

clara10 · 02/06/2020 07:31

I buy tops from Lands End. They are really soft and plain.

DoYourTitsHangLow · 02/06/2020 09:17

Fila
North Face
Nike
Tommy Hillfiger
Lyle and Scott
All the above in shorts, teeshirts and hoodies
Only jeans he will wear are River Island skinnies

NC4Now · 02/06/2020 16:07

Thanks so much everyone! There are loads of ideas here - I'll look through with him tonight

Pyjamas mostly, at the moment!

PorpentiaScamander · 02/06/2020 16:17

@BlueChampagne

Pyjamas mostly, at the moment!
Same here!

But usually jeans or chinos and t-shirts from Primark/tesco. I think I have the only teens on the planet who really dont care about brands! (15 and 13)
13 year old wears some from the children's section, and some from the mens.

Crystalspider · 02/06/2020 16:26

Abercrombie and fitch has got some nice stuff one of my sons is 12 although tall for his age and wears mens S so I normally look at menswear now instead of kids.
Levis and John Lewis are good places to shop also.

Fleamaker123 · 02/06/2020 16:29

Primark t shirts, jogging trousers/shorts from Sports Direct.
He's 16 but has absolutely zero interest in clothes though, so it's quite straightforward!

happilybemused · 02/06/2020 16:33

Jack Wills hoodies and tees.

Other wears Hugo Boss sweatshirts and tees.

Both Levi jeans and Nike trainers.

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 02/06/2020 16:39

We struck gold with ds and he's really cheap to run as far as teens go.

He lives in t-shirts from qwertee which are an absolute bargain considering the quality, he likes fatfish too, Adidas or Nike skater trainers (( usually picked up for under £30 ))which are really comfy (( ds also has ASD )) and jogging bottom type shorts. The soft ones. He doesn't care about the brands and is happily wearing a pair of Tesco ones at the mo. The only brand he really insists on is the trainer's as they're the most comfortable.

JoysOfString · 02/06/2020 16:44

He sounds very like my 14yo!
H&M men's chino-type trousers and trackie bottoms
Soft tops from Gap, sainsbury's and H&M
Mine likes nerdy t-shirts, like you can get from Redbubble, Zazzle etc.
M&S great for lovely soft PJs.

ChequerBoard · 02/06/2020 16:50

DS13 doesn't like big logos, patterns or scratchy labels and prefer soft, comfortable fabrics. I buy list of his clothes from the Abercrombie & Fitch kids range. They wash well, look good and are well sized. They also have good sales and are often offering reductions so I feel they offer good value.

averythinline · 02/06/2020 17:21

Second next for good tracksuit bottoms -one of the few that has long leg small waist ... H&M etc all too small leg ... Uniqlo as well for t shirts they sometimes have good geeky ones ...DS hates jeans as has sensory issues...

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 02/06/2020 17:58

Ds wears anything from boohoo men’s to stone island/true religion. (He saves up for the more expensive items)
He has some nice shorts and t shirts from boohoo and I was surprised when he said that’s where he had got them from.
I’ve always given my teens a budget and put it into their account and I then need to see clothing/footwear to the value of the money given.

All of my dc seem to like ASOS as it has lots of brands on as well as own brand items and can be as cheap as you want it to be. They usually have a discount code as well.

Fidgety31 · 02/06/2020 18:31

My sons don’t like the sportswear look that a lot of teenage boys wear.
It’s black skinny jeans a a band t shirt for one and jeans with checked shirts for the other - he has ASD too and will never change his style !

duletty · 03/06/2020 18:44

My ds 15, took dog out for a walk today, he was wearing
Sorel hiking boots
Cargo shorts
Purple knit jumper
Ray bans

At over 6 foot tall, he looked so healthy and happy as though he was going off on an adventure rather than a trudge around the streets.
He doesn’t don’t choose any of these items, I got him them as various presents in the last year, he looked very grown up 😊/☹️

ChaoticCatling · 03/06/2020 19:21

My 14 year old DS likes plain unbranded comfortable clothing. I buy him tshirts from FatFace, they are lovely and soft. DS is the size of a 13 year old (158cm) but the FatFace size 12-13 is still big on him. He wears straight cut jeans in winter and cargo shorts in summer. He mostly wears a zip up fleece when it's cold, rarely a coat.

QueenofLouisiana · 03/06/2020 20:21

Shorts from hollister, primark and swimzi (swimming brand so comfy and easy to pull on). T-shirt’s were from primark and H&M until about a year ago, now ASOS, tkmaxx or holister. Jeans and joggers from ASOS for the x-long legs. Holister/ sports hoodies.

He’s turned 15 in the last week and is 6’2” with a 29 in waist. Likes plain clothes with small logos.
