Shoes that are nice and comfortable

I have arthritis in both feet, as well as bunions (hereditary, had one removed and it came back with a vengeance). I can't wear any type of heel because of the pain. My feet also cut very easily. I permanently have either a blister or a scab on at least one of my feet. I currently also have bruises on two of my toe nails because my feet are such an awkward shape, shoes bruise them. I generally wear trainers or flat boots, these hurt my feet the least, but I really want something a bit nicer. Something I can wear for upcoming job interviews I hope to have, and also something just a bit nicer and less clunky to go with my summer clothes. And something to suit my age, I'm 32. Any ideas? I have no budget in mind, but I'd spend more for something that didn't hurt and looked good.

I was going to suggest you look at Hotter shoes, but at 32 you might find them too frumpy. They are very comfy though.

WhatWouldDominicDo · 01/06/2020 18:19

It would be expensive, but have you thought about getting custom made shoes? They would last you a lifetime, so not so expensive per annum off wear.

BlueBooby · 01/06/2020 18:43

I didn't want to add more complications into my op, but I think one of my feet is size 4 and the other closer to a 5, plus with the bunions they're really wide (my feet are def not my most attractive body part!) so custom made would probably be perfect. How do you go about finding a shoe maker? Google I suppose.
I will look at hotter shoes too though, thank you.

I wrote this post after I walked to the local shop this morning wearing the only sort of summery shoes I own. Sort of ballet pump style ones. Its less than 5 minutes away from my house and my feet are still cramped and hurting. If custom made shoes are out of my price range, I will save up for them.

I also suffer from bunions and find M&S wider fit, Clarks and SeaSalt sandals the most comfortable for me .. they are not the most stylish, but I figured that hobbling along in pain is even less stylish, so now I go for comfortable shoes every time!

BlueBooby · 01/06/2020 19:16

I actually had a pair of sandals from Clarks a few years ago that were quite comfortable. The only downside was the strap broke after a summers wear. I think bunions do that though as often my shoes end up with holes in that area really quickly, and the strap was over the bunions. I'd love some shoes that fitted like a glove and didn't hurt and lasted, and even better if they looked nice with the huge wardrobe of summer dresses I own! I am a bit envious of people who can wear anything in their size.

YouStupidBoy · 01/06/2020 20:05

Clarks Taylor Palm might fit your bill.

I love Ecco shoes, and have worn them since my teens in Scandinavia where they have a kind of geek chic following, but I gather they're seen as a bit frumpy here. They saw me through a very sore patch of plantar fasciitis a couple of years ago, and are feather-light and flexible.

Imtoooldforallthis · 01/06/2020 20:12

For some reason it won't link but look at Dune Le Marche in gold.

BlueBooby · 01/06/2020 20:13

They both look like prime foot cutting shoes unfortunately. I know my feet quite well and the cuts don't scab over and harden up, it's more like perpetual bleeding and scabbing. My feet look like they belong to an ogre but they're as delicate as a pixie(or something opposite to ogre). I've found a custom shoe makers who specialise in shoes for people with pain causing foot conditions like arthritis and bunions, so I'm going to investigate that a bit further. Thanks so much for the idea.

Oh I'm really slow at replying. I was talking about the very first link shared, the Modainpelle one. I'll have a look through all the rest. Thanks a lot.

I think maybe Birkenstock's maybe a good bet I find them very comfortable

Sarcelle · 01/06/2020 20:20

There is a company called Sole Bliss, who make wider shoes to accommodate bunions/wide feet. I don't have this problem myself but I saw an article about them. I can't link to the site for some reason. I think they are more court shoes, Camilla PB wears them so they might be a tad mature. But they might have a larger range beyond court shoes.

WhatWouldDominicDo · 01/06/2020 22:41

There was an article in read a few days ago about Camillas shoes. Apparently she has 11 pairs all the same but different colours because they are easy on her bunions.
I'll try and find it.

superram · 01/06/2020 22:48

Sargasso and grey are wide fitting.

Lucked · 01/06/2020 22:50

I love my Read or Dead Rosie brogues ( here). I have terrible feet and can wear them right out the box with no socks and no blisters. They have brown, tan, dark red and black. They are quite lite so not too hot in summer.

Also moshulu shoes are comfy but pricey if not on offer.

LuluJakey1 · 01/06/2020 22:52

I have ecco sandals which are great- my feet blister really easily. Also Sketchers' Bobs espadrilles which I can walk for miles in without any kind of socks.

Fleetheart · 01/06/2020 22:53

I also think Moshulu are great; very comfortable. But a bit expensive. Worth it though.

StillSmallVoice · 02/06/2020 13:42

Ecco for me, every time. They aren't the most stylish, but they aren't absolutely awful, and they wear for a long time. I have had the feet of an eighty two year old since I was about thirty.
