after my first the same thing happened, about 6 months after my hair was coming out, but now 7 months after my second child, my hair is actually coming out in big clumps. its really annoying me as it leaves wee stray bits flying everywhere, i look as though i have the tiniest fringe evr. anyone any solutions for it? xx

My sisters son is 5 months old and her hairs come out in clumps.

Shes been diagnosed with anxiety and depression though so its actully alapecia.

I think some hair loss is normal - i lost alot but didnt have bald patches like my sister so i think when that starts to happen you should see someone as its most likely something different.

kitsandbits · 21/09/2007 14:30

Sorry - what i was trying to say is

hairloss after a baby is normal

but if it gets to the point where you can see your scalp you should go to your GP

marietsweet · 21/09/2007 15:06

thankyou, no ya cant see my scalp..dont think so, its just as if its breaking from the roots, roots are staying but rest is coming out. its just so annoying as i cant do nothing with it at all. thanks x

Mine is the same, it looks like it did when I tried to cut myself a fringe when i was 7.

My solution was to have a kind of longish fringe cut so it hides the bit at the front.

marietsweet · 21/09/2007 19:46

oh god, i dont suit fringe's, honestly, i think i need a wig

half of my hair came out after I stopped bfing. I had either been pregnant or bfing continously for four years and it was the first time my hormones were getting back to 'normal'. It was a shock - over two months half of it came out - fortunately I had thick hair to begin with.

Now, three months later, it's all growing back, but I did have to have it cut shorted then i've ever had it.

marietsweet · 21/09/2007 20:08

im dying to get mine cut short, but i honestly dont think it would make a difference, the hair at the front is that short its standing up anyway, so wont flatten at all. plus ive long hair and drastically changing it would kill me i think lol

marietsweet - it's worth asking a good hairdresser's advice, my hairdresser worked wonders with my hair even though half of it had fallen out.

ceebee74 · 21/09/2007 20:17

Mine did this after stopping the pill after 13 years - I panicked as tons of it was coming out everytime I combed it and went to the doctor. He said it was normal because the pill tricks your body into thinking it is pregnant.

After I had had DS, the same thing happened again after about 3 months - and then again after about 9 months.

Seems to have settled down now thankfully (until I come off the pill again shortly no doubt!)

gess · 21/09/2007 20:17

I lost loads of hair after all 3. ABout 6 months later. It did stop eventually but went on for about 6 months I think.

I remember when ds1 was about 6months old a friend and I were on our way to visit a mutual friend. Stuck in traffic we both sat there pulling out our hair and chucking it out the car window

callmeovercautious · 21/09/2007 20:22

At about 4 months. Left me with all this short new hair which as you say looks like a mini fringe The same effect around the top of my ears so it stuck out! I looked like I had not bothered at all even after half an hour with the hairdryer!

I had mine cut quite short and it blends in now. Apparently it is known as baby hair. You get it worse if you always wear your hair up, called tension allopecia (sp?)

marietsweet · 21/09/2007 21:50

i always wear my hair up in the house as its easier. i was considering getting a slight perm, to make my hair wavy, not sure if this would hide it or not tho. but since my hair is poker straight the bits are sooooooooooooo noticeable. thanks for all your advice girls. xx

I think you've got some useful advice but still think you should see your Dr - they can give you steroids to stop the hairloss if it is severe - there is certainly no harm in talking to them. Up to you of course. Good luck anyway...

marietsweet · 21/09/2007 23:45

thankyou all, i think i will see doc, i keep having severe migraine's and dizziness too maybe its all connected. thanks again x

Noooooooo. Don't get a perm. Your poor hair is stressed out enough!

Egypt · 22/09/2007 01:34

yes this is happening to me too. dd2 is 6 months and its been coming out in tressles from about 3 months ago. terrible terrible, the house is covered in hairs and the plugholes are blocked. but it's coming out form the roots. i think it feels thinner but doesnt look much thinner, just lank. happened with dd1 too, but not sure it was this bad.

Had to jump in at the mention of perm..I had this bright idea having straight hair myself, and going from hoooge thick hair to lank thin and horrid hair after I had dd.
Perm made it a million times worse, trust me. DD is now 6 years old and my hair is only just going back to normal!

PrettyCandles · 22/09/2007 06:01

Try taking a good multi-vitamins and minerals supplejment. The hair-loss can be due to deficiencies. nIf so, youwill see a significant difference within 3-4 weeks of starting the supplement.

IME the best way tio disguise/deal with thinning or re-growing hair isd to get a good haiurcut. A cmplete change of style can work wonfders.

Gingerbear · 22/09/2007 06:47

DS is 4 months now. I have been losing hair for a mpnth - used to be thick and wavy, now thin and frizzy. I had it cut shorter and more layers to give it a bit more body, but it is driving me crazy.

Agree re vitamins - you can get one for hair and nails or a good post -natal (New Mum multi vit from Boots is on 3 for 2)

callmeovercautious · 22/09/2007 21:20

The restyle I had worked wonders - mine is very fine and straight too so am not used to bits sticking out

I was a bit worried at the salon but the lovely girl understood my worry and showed me through loads of books. EVERYONE has said how much better it is and how young I look (I love them all!)

I had put off cutting my long hair for years but it does actually hide the "fluff" and is much better (lo can't get a grip to pull it out now!)

marietsweet · 22/09/2007 21:37

god i dont know if i could get it cut shorter. i've had long hair now for 8 years i think. altho i do need a change, i need a new make over lol. xx

I remember getting my hair cut a few weeks after giving birth. No one must have warned the young girl who washed my hair about the joys of pregnancy hormones - she looked absolutely horrified, and must have thought that she had a dodgy batch of shampoo or something.

ScoobyDooooo · 22/09/2007 21:48

This is totally normal i had this after both of my children, i went to the doctors regarding it once & she told me when your pregnant you grow extra hair as such then after baby is born this extra hair comes out.

marietsweet · 22/09/2007 22:49

i had it with my first as well, but no where near as bad. think its just everything going down hill now, never get chance for make-up, never get chance for aerobics, so abit pudgy lol, think a new hair do will do me the world of good. i live in one of those town's where its all posers... girls with kids walking about town in high heels, trendiest gear, gorgeous make-up done....just feel like a real slob these days, and it seems if i try to do my hair, the worse it gets!!!
