Sunscreen that doesn't burn

As the title says, really. Is there such a thing? My face and eyes feel like on fire from everything I have tried. Latest is one from Neutrogena, it was good for a few days and then went back to the same old- swollen eyes and face on fire. I have tried some Korean watery ones as well. Here's a list I have tried so far from the top of my head-- LA Roche Posay, Garnier, Neutrogena, Biore, Solait, Caudelie, Nivea, Ultrasun and Eucerin.

I would really appreciate some suggestions as I can't just keep on wasting money on stuff that is no good for me.

Green people sun cream is great. Dd3 and I have so many allergies but we can both use green people. It’s online or in our health food shop.

dillite · 30/05/2020 21:36

That's another one I have tried and couldn't get on with. I don't even have sensitive skin when it comes to other skincare, only spf.

I've tried LOADS, most of which gave me itchy skin or hives. MooGoo is very low irritation, but very, very shiny. Elave was also great, there's a sensitive one but even the regular one didn't cause a reaction, unfortunately it tended to pill when I used it over a serum, and my skin is very dry so I need the serum. At the moment I'm using Natio for Men and haven't had any reaction to it at all, I even use it on my eyelids.

If you have no joy with recommendations I'd approach your GP and get a referral to a dermatologist. It might be that there are special spf products prescription only. Otherwise the only thing I can think of is covering up with clothing, sunglasses and a wide brim hat. I have a DD with ASD and due to sensory problems she won't wear sunscreen. She's happy to cover up though, including for swimming.

3LittleMonkeyz · 30/05/2020 22:44

I have issue with Nivea but get on well with Wilkos own brand

dillite · 30/05/2020 22:46

Thank you for recommendations. I have ordered Moogoo and Natio to give them a go.

I already do cover up head to toe as I hate having my skin on show. It's just my face that can't be covered up. One day I will find a hat to fit my giant head--it's seriously enormous, I am not exaggerating. At the moment I use a UV safe parasol on days out and such, but do need something on my face when driving or when parasol can't be used.

Thank you for recommendations.

I use Elta MD it's for sensitive skin. My derm recommended it. Might be worth a try?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 30/05/2020 23:02

Try Village Hats for a large hat.

missingmum · 30/05/2020 23:09

Ultrasun face is amazing, my daughters eyes would swell and water with all but this one and I've tried many!

M&S sell it www.marksandspencer.com/face-spf-50-50ml/p/hbp22249950?color=NOCOLOUR

Qwertyguerty · 30/05/2020 23:14

I was just recommended Paula's choice and am loving it. I use a daily moisturiser with factor 50. Super light absorbs quickly

They do travel sizes too so you could try it out first

ErrolTheDragon · 30/05/2020 23:15

but do need something on my face when driving

Why? Assuming you're not in an open top car, car glass will filter out most of the UV.

MiniMum97 · 30/05/2020 23:22

I react to most sunscreens too although I am ok with green people which obviously you have already tried.

I have very sensitive skin and find that most Tropic skincare products suit my skin well so I am just trying their sun cream as green purple is so heavy on the skin I hate wearing it. Day one and it going ok so far. I'll report back. They do two ranges and one is better for sensitive skin than the other. I am giving the one that's not for sensitive skin a go as it's a lighter one and if I react they will refund.

I second going to dermatologist. It sounds like rather than sensitive skin you have an allergy to something specific within sunscreen. A dermatologist can arrange for patch testing so you can find out exactly what the ingredient is so you can avoid it.

MintyMabel · 30/05/2020 23:23

Have you tried the kid's ones?

MiniMum97 · 30/05/2020 23:23

@errolthedragon UVA goes through glass and will age your skin so still worth wearing sunscreen.

Iadoremylabrador · 30/05/2020 23:39

Have you tried Superdrug facial one. I have sensitive skin and don't react to it. It has a 5 star rating too. I've also tried the Superdrug kids one and that is good too. I think their range is called Solait.

BlueTuesday20 · 30/05/2020 23:42

I second Village Hats for big heads! Grin The Monaco hat by Tete a Tete has a massive brim too. Fabric. Gorgeous and stylish. They just need to make it in black too!

dillite · 31/05/2020 11:18

errol it's an old car with no air con so I have to have windows open when UV obviously gets in.

I've not tried superdrug one, will add it to my list. And Paula's choice as well, I've tried their other products and loved them but haven't tried their sunscreen.

I find kid's ones too heavy for my face, makes glasses slide off constantly and greasy. Why is it so hard to get something that is light and absorbs well and doesn't irritate?

Yes I have and it made my eyes swell.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 31/05/2020 11:38

If you don't like greasy then I don't think the MooGoo will work for you. It's not heavy, but like I said it's very shiny, although I don't remember my sunglasses slipping off when I was using it so perhaps it would be ok.

LadyEloise · 31/05/2020 11:40

Elave ?

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 31/05/2020 11:45

LaRoche Posay Anthelios? I have sensitive skin and it works for me. Quite matt- looking too.

ghislaine · 31/05/2020 11:50

I use HEVL cream (spf 50) from the Skin Shop. I have super sensitive skin and this is the only thing that has worked for me.

ErrolTheDragon · 31/05/2020 15:09

We find the Avene kids one mild and good for faces - I've not noticed it being greasy but as it's quite waterproof might not suit you.

I like the Boots Protect and Perfect sunscreen which seems to be half price at the moment ... but if you're sensitive to the sunscreen chemicals I'm guessing most adult formulations won't be any good for you.

Have you tried Childs Farm? It's designed for babies/people with sensitive skin so may be worth a shot?
