Eyelid eczema

For the past few years, I occasionally get dry/scaly patches on my eyelids that are quite sore. They last for about 2 weeks, then it’s usually clear for 8 months or so.

I just put it down to environmental changes as they pop up during spring/autumn once temperatures shift.

However this time it’s been persistent for 6 weeks. One of my eyes even looks slightly droopy due to a patch being on my eyelid crease. How can I treat it?

@Time2change2 just wanted to say thank you for the miracle cure 😭 2020 has been hellish in many ways, but having painful eyelids and undereyes for 5 months in a row has been my personal hell. Thank you so much Flowers

OP I suddenly got terrible eye lid eczema -red, scales, itchy - Long story short - it was my nail varnish, didn’t realise I rub my eyes or helps hands near face. Since I stopped wearing that brand it Went as quick as it came and never happened again.

Time2change2 · 04/06/2020 08:55

@arinah yay! It worked for you? I am so pleased if it did. It’s just a horrid thing to have! Keep using it past when it’s gone for a little while and then scale back slowly to check it’s not coming back x

CremeDeSudo · 04/06/2020 16:52

I get this too! Going to try bepanthen next time. Thank you!

arinah · 04/06/2020 17:07

@Time2change2 yep Grin I started off 3 times a day since it's not particularly strong and have now gone down to twice a day. I tried a few baby products since they are gentle but bepanthen was the one product I didn't think of 😂

Thank you, gonna try

I got this and my GP prescribed a protopic.

I had already tried hydrocortisone and it cleared it up, but came back as soon as I stopped, and you can only use it very short term.

The protopic got rid of it for good, brilliant stuff.

The GP didn't mention any side effects, and I didn't have any, so not sure what your GPs concerns were.

Hi 👋 @TomAllensWhiskMic just jumping on the bandwagon here as I’m going through horrible eczema on my eyelids and under eyes at the moment and nothing works apart from 1% hydrocortisone… I try to use it only for a few days but then a couple of days after I’ve stopped it flares right back up again. This has been going on for about 5 weeks now and I’m not sure what’s causing it yet. I keep reading about Protopic cream but have also read that it burns horribly for the first few days of using it - did you experience this at all?

TheHoover · 19/11/2023 15:28

Eczema can sometimes be due to your diet / an undiagnosed food intolerance. I get it on my eyelids, hands and feet and it is directly due to dairy and eggs. I can eliminate it completely by cutting these foods out and if I ever lapse (eg when I let myself eat cheese at xmas) it comes back after 2-3 weeks.

Maybe worth doing a york test or similar.

No I didn't experience any burning with the protopic. The one I was prescribed was Elidel.

I once put Protopic on my itchy bits.

Fuck me!🔥🔥🔥l was bellowing like a cow. Had to freeze loads of bags of quorn ( because it moulded really easily). Was off work for 4 days.

Felt like hell had got hold of my bits. Christ, I’m still remembering it now🥴

So glad I found this thread! I've been suffering with this since having DD in January (plus in other areas such as ears, neck and arms) and it's the closest I've felt to hell on earth 😩 GP gave me a gentle steroid for the eye area and it cleared up almost instantly, but then stopped working for some reason Confused I didn't consider hair products being a factor - I eliminated makeup since I haven't worn any during lockdown.
Quick question - does anyone here get the same flakiness on their upper lip? I can't get it to go and so I always have a lovely dry skin moustache effect, especially on the occasions when I do put foundation on!

Hello, hope you don’t mind me messaging 5 years down the line but I’m suffering with the flakiness around my lip area, did you find a cure? Thanks so much :)

I thought I had egzema on my eyelids as well as used to get it on my neck near the scalp. But turned out on my eyelids there was irritation from Johnson's waterproof eye make up removing wipes. As used them quite a lot in the past :(
