Please help with my straw-like hair!

Please help with my hair!
Over the last 18 months my hair has thinned noticeably. I’m now getting bald patches in addition to overall thinning. Went to my GP last year, he ran bloods, all normal, that was the end of that.
But in addition, what hair I do have is so ridiculously dry. It’s like straw, and the static is unreal at times.

I’ve tried a lot of different shampoos and conditioners, but nothing’s helped either the hair loss or the dryness. I take biotin and other supplements, and get a decent amount of protein every day. Tbh I’m getting fed up of wasting money on things that say they’ll help but don’t.

I’m now trying to accept that the hair loss is not going away, so want to concentrate on helping what hair I do have.

I’ve never dyed my hair or used heat on it (don’t blow dry, never straightened etc). Now I’m getting more & more greys, I’d love to dye it, but I’m terrified it’d cause me to lose even more hair, so won’t! It’s mid-back length at the moment - used to be longer but I had to cut it last year. I really, really don’t want to cut it any more, even though the ends are very straggly.

I’m pretty clueless with haircare - until last year I largely ignored my hair and it was great - long, smooth, soft. I’ve been trying to research, but there’s so much out there it’s hard to differentiate truth from marketing.

Can anyone help with recommendations for how to help my straw-dry hair?

Take a high dose multi vitamin and mineral. Nothing skin hair nails or anything like that just a solgar one.

I'd also ditch the scrunchie.

I did that for a while and my God, suddenly realised that half the hair at the back was missing! Had to chop 6 inches off. Sad

Ditch the scrunchie and buy a silk pillowcase. I believe you can get them on Amazon. And do something kinder to your hair during the day. Instead of a bun, try a claw clip.

Btw, the 6 inches was a blessing in disguise. A bob looks twice as thick on me and is a lot less stressful. I was always trying to treat my straggly ends. Now I just don't have any in the first place. It also tends to fluff up a bit better because it's not as long. It's growing out now because of lockdown and I'm suprisingly stressed about it, even though it's only shoulder length. The ends have turned to candyfloss already. I've started to look like Doc from Back To The Future. Blush

You can search for trichologists that offer free consultations. Due to covid, many are carrying out free online consultations after a video call or just looking at your photos, so they don’t need to be based in your area.

At least they would be able to shed light on whether you have temporary hair loss (eg stress induced telogen effluvium, where there aren’t really any treatments) or something else that can be investigated and treated.
