I cannot afford highlights plus lockdown. I have red semi permanent dye and want to strip it out ( or wash with head and shoulders for a few weeks to get colour out). I know everyone says NO !!! but anyone had a degree if success with box blonde? If so...how?

Yes. Did a weak bleach bath to remove old patchy colour and used the new stuff in superdrug..ash blonde ..now have ordered a highlight cap..I will try to post my process and pics soon..you can add vinegar and baking powder to the head and shoulders but it will really dry it out. I have also used the new rebinding products in superdrug..the dye I used contain it also.

Yes..very pleased. The new range of box dyes in superdrug are good..on offer at present..half price..the ash blonde shade also lifts by up to three levels.

Yes went from very dark brown with red tones to a medium blonde and I’m very pleased! I have waist length fine hair and lots of it. I used 2 packets of garnier bleach initially then a semi permanent ash blonde colour. I left it alone for around 2 weeks then repeated the process. I then left bleach London silver conditioner overnight twice followed by a revolution silver toner twice. I am absolutely thrilled with the result and it has given me a nice little lockdown project too! If all else fails you can always pop a medium brown dye over it so I say go for it! Just be sure to keep up with extra conditioning and hair masks, your hair will thank you! I would recommend aveda daily hair repair and bleach resurrection. Good luck Smile

One of my friends has, her mum used to be a hairdresser though so not a complete amateur attempt. She bought wella bleach/developer.

She went from dark (dyed) brunette to a light cream blonde after 3 sessions of highlights over a few weeks. (I wouldn’t recommend any beginner bleach their hair that many times!) It is much easier if you can get someone in your household to apply it for you. Highlights are a good way to go if you can get it right, less damaging to your hair and looks more expensive/dimensional vs a full bleach.

Yes. I'm naturally salt and pepper dark brown / grey and have been dying my hair at home for decades. I bleached my hair to very light blonde using two lots of bleach 2 weeks apart (olaplex and plenty of hair packs in between). Then I toned using an ash toner and then dyed grey. Still using intensive hair packs and olaplex but love love love my new silver color and my hair is in great condition. Do lots of research on products and be prepared to spend a few weeks getting to the color you want.
