Hi there,
I hope you can help. My DD is 12 and has developed a penchant for an American preppy look, so argyle print cardigan and burberry check kilt.
Where would I find such items of clothing? I only really know Hennes and Urban Outfitters, and they don't have anything. I don't want to buy from amazon but also don't want to spend loadsamoney.
Can you help? Where do I start?
Thanks :D

shien have a skirt that is similar to the one you linked here, and brandy melville do a sweater like the one you described here. hope that helps!

cultkid · 29/05/2020 18:19

Cheap Monday urban outfitters
Monki
Free people

titchy · 29/05/2020 18:20

Pull and bear.

SecondaryBurnzzz · 29/05/2020 18:25

Thank you SOOOO much!
I'm more of a COS/Toast person, this is not in my skillset!

The skirts are all very short! Can i insist she wears sturdy tights!
I remember when she used to wear stuff from Boden

sleepismysuperpower1 · 29/05/2020 18:32

you might find they are longer on her than in the pictures, OP, depending on how tall she is. You could also get her a pair of shorts to wear underneath, my dd has these and chooses to wear them under skirts (she is scared of the wind blowing them up!)

MrsVeryTired · 29/05/2020 19:08

Hollister very popular with teens also

SecondaryBurnzzz · 29/05/2020 23:07

I hope so! Why can't she just wear colourful dungarees and stripey tops like she used to!

Thanks so much for your help though everyone, you've been life savers.

They sell alot of the above brands on asos Smile

SecondaryBurnzzz · 29/05/2020 23:33

That's really useful Cordial11 so I can use asos to browse lots of high street shops? Google was just giving me lots of amazon suggestions. I would normally go to John Lewis as my first port of call - not very fruitful here!

cultkid · 30/05/2020 06:49

Yes ASOS is really good
Or pretty little thing (the quality isn't good but I know she would like the style of this stuff)

I really like monki clothes they are good quality

cultkid · 30/05/2020 06:49

Another website is called I saw it first

That's another one

Cordial11 · 30/05/2020 07:51

Yes ASOS is the best one stop shop! Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/05/2020 09:23

Have you looked in TopShop?

My DD is nearly 18. Her wardrobe is:

TopShop-
Urban Outfitter (££ but the clothes are well made). There BDG denim is good
PrettyLittleThings - some ok, some a bit meh but loads of sales . DD gets free next day delivery .

Has your DD been watching the film "Clueless"? Cher is the ultimate in American Preppy Check .

SecondaryBurnzzz · 30/05/2020 11:29

I don't want to give any money to the awful Philip Green, so Top Shop is out of the question, but I will definitely look at the others.
Yes Clueless is a big hit here, and we watched Emma afterwards to spot the similarities. Emma wasn't well received!

I have another question about teen skincare 'Dermatica skincare' is it good quality?

coronabeer23 · 30/05/2020 11:38

Brandy melville all the way

bendmeoverbackwards · 30/05/2020 11:55

Please don’t shop at Brandy Melville. My teen dd has boycotted it due to their one size clothing and recruitment of skinny pretty sales staff Sad

MadisonMontgomery · 30/05/2020 11:56

Jcrew?

Pigletpoglet · 30/05/2020 12:00

Best teen skin care we've found is Neutrogena Clear and Defend moisturiser (used to be called Spot Stress Control). They do a daily scrub too. DD14 has been using it for 2 years or so now, and it's brilliant. She doesn't seem to get outbreaks at all and her skin looks great.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/05/2020 12:47

Look on the Superdrug website
Depending on her skin type you can filter through and get some suitable products .
How much does she want to do? Is it just a face wash and light moisturiser?
Or one of the HotCloth cleansers?

Superdrug own brand , the TeaTree range, Revolution.

DD likes Mario Badescu ( 2 layer bottle) but Revolution do a very good dupe about half the price .
She likes the MB rose spray rather than Revolution
And Sukin - excellent range
(And Cruelty Free which is 100% a deal breaker for DD and I - a lot of teens are far more aware than in my day)

dontgobaconmyheart · 30/05/2020 12:55

Can she not look online herself OP? I'm sure her and her friends know what brands they want, realistically.

If ethics are a concern to you I don't imagine any of the brands mentioned here are any better than 'awful Philip Green'. It is not just Topshop that PG owns as an aside, he owns many of the high street brands- miss selfridge, dorothy perkins and so on.

The majority of these companies, including John Lewis, have furloughed tens of thousands of staff and often source their products from unsustainable sources nonetheless.

My 13 year old DN who likes fast fashion is into Urban Outfitters, Topshop, Pretty Little Thing, Nasty Gal, Monki, Brandy Melville, Missguided and a lot of the sportswear brands.

SecondaryBurnzzz · 30/05/2020 13:45

Thanks everyone.

dontgobaconmyheart of course she can source her own clothes, but I wanted some information for myself just to make sure she wasn’t missing a trick. Mumsnet is full of very well informed people and these brands are quite new to me.
She really enjoyed buying from thrift shops before lock down but not possible now obviously.
Thanks again everyone.

Jack wills is very preppy lots of kilts etc.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 30/05/2020 14:05

Gant's very preppy, you can probably find loads on ebay if it's a bit too spendy.
