Sore under breast

Lndnmummy · 28/05/2020 16:27

Possibly the least glamorous post I have ever posted! I have this sore under my breast, where the bra is and it’s soo sore. What do I get for it. I put sudocream on there but I wonder if anyone has any other tips?

Do you think it's a rash from getting sweaty? Not a lump or anything like that?

Gunpowder · 28/05/2020 16:30

Is it just one one side? I had this and it was shingles!

homemadecommunistrussia · 28/05/2020 16:33

Good point shingles is very painful and typically just on one side. I had it on my back.

Shinygoldbauble · 28/05/2020 16:35

Could be intertrigo. I had it and it cleared up with sudocrem and Caldesene powder.

FlibbertyGiblets · 28/05/2020 16:37

Place a soft cloth, like an old t shirt cut up, between bra and skin. Keep it clean, continue to use sudocreme. Don't hesitate to consult your pharmacist if it doesn't clear up soon.

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 28/05/2020 16:38

I have found talc useful if it's hard to stop the area getting sweaty.

SuperFurryDoggy · 28/05/2020 16:38

Incredibly unlikely, but if you’re not sure of the cause and it’s on one side only then please get it checked out just to make sure it’s not a skin cancer.

Almost certainly not, but...

On the other hand, if you’re fairly sure it’s an eczema type rash etc, asking a pharmacist to take a look is your best best.

ChimpsInClothes · 28/05/2020 17:03

Hydrocortisone cream will clear it up

Terralee · 28/05/2020 17:29

Could it be thrush?

Lndnmummy · 28/05/2020 21:39

It’s a flab/hot/rub type of thing. I have been comfort eating during lockdown, gained loads of weight and my bra doesn’t fit properly. I have never had this before so was surprised at how sore and painful it was. Thank you lovely people who have replied. I’ll get onto the tips straight away!

So you wear underwire bras? Are your bras the right size?

I had a sore patch under my boob that my bra was rubbing on and making worse. I tried all the over counter creams and nothing made any difference. Phoned doctors who made me an app with nurse. I took off my top obviously so she could see and the first thing she said was “that bra doesn’t fit”. I was quite shocked because it felt fine to me! Obviously apart from the sore bit but I didn’t associate that with my bra.

She prescribed me some cream - can’t remember the name of it - told me to have a bra fitting but in the meantime wear a non wired bra or a sports bra and go bra less as much as possible to avoid irritating it further.

It cleared up in about a week. I went and got fitted turns out I’m a 34 g rather than the 36 e I had been wearing

Deathraystare · 29/05/2020 09:31

I get this when it is hot as I sweat under my boobs. I slather sudocreme underneath. I used to put it on cotton wool and then put it underneath but it made the wound wet. Yes I would get a wound under there. I wore one of those non wire bras - the comfy lounger type of bra. All I was doing was a mild tidy up but the constant bending up and down made me very sore indeed. This is why I hate the heat!

Deathraystare · 29/05/2020 09:32

I agree re talcum powder.

ShowerOfShite · 29/05/2020 10:59

I use Lanacane cream when I get a rub patch. Clears up quickly.

AmelieTaylor · 29/05/2020 11:03

I found E45 cream the best.

I can't wear a bra more than once before washing it or it flares up

Unsurprising really given the heat that's generated under there!!

Papergirl1968 · 29/05/2020 11:31

I have had this for a few weeks just under one boob and within a couple of days Lanacane anti chaffing gel has worked wonders.

MojoMoon · 29/05/2020 14:21

If sudocrem is not helping, it could well be a fungal infection.

Bit of Lamisil (athlete's foot/jock itch) cream may clear it up.

Then once cleared up use body powder to keep area dry and prevent chafing.

Toomboom · 29/05/2020 14:26

It could be a fungal infection. I am big breasted [ unfortunately ] and I can get quite sore, and it usually is a fungal infection. Use something like Canesten to treat it and try to keep the area dry.

Lndnmummy · 29/05/2020 18:52

You ladies are amazing! So I had a few small really soft Muslins from the baby days and I cut them up and stuffed them under the yes too small and now ill fitting wire. Lots of sudocream underneath and it seems to start to heal up. I bought some of the lanacane gel too u remember using it for thighs during my pregnancies. Thanks so much for coming to my rescue. ❤️

What’s your take on the talcum powder and breast cancer connection? I‘be always been abit scared to use it but maybe it was all unsubstantiated?

OP posts:
FlibbertyGiblets · 29/05/2020 18:58

Iirc talc is implicated possibly in gynae cancers not breast cancer.

I don't like talc, I find it makes a really horrid paste with my under boob sweat! Blerk!

blueskys72 · 29/05/2020 19:00

Last summer I wore pant liners along the underwire to absorb any sweat etc Blush I also use talc under my boobs every morning.

Last time it got sore though was November and turned out to be shingles, as per PPs.

AnnaMagnani · 29/05/2020 22:09

You need Canesten HC twice a day, keeping it as dry as possible and some bra free time.

It is most likely to be intertrigo which is a combination of a fungal infection + inflammation.

So bit of fungal cream, bit of steroid, bit of fresh air and keeping it as dry as possible it will be gone.

Also a bra fitting - badly fitting bra will just make it worse.

Definitely no moisturiser or barrier cream, you are just adding to the problem!

Murrfect · 29/05/2020 22:14

Definitely canestan n hydrocortisone cream - I get it when my bra is fitting badly in hot weather - it’s over the counter I got it in a Tesco pharmacy

The cream takes the heat n pain away but then you must get your bra fitted properly as you may have changed your size

Good luck!

justasking111 · 29/05/2020 22:16

A consultant who deals with breast cancer told me that underwire should be kept for nights out and to wear wireless bras otherwise. She was right.
