Suntan while working from home, indoors?

I'm currently WFH and have my desk set up at a sunny window. It wasn't until this evening when I was putting a face mask on that I noticed my cheeks and nose were freckley which I normally only get when ive outside in the usn. Since lockdown I've barely been out, even less since WFH.
Is it possible to get sun damage through a window?

absolutely is it possible to get sun damage through a window, and through water (sea/pool). Glass does not block rays, that is why fake sunglasses without UV filters can cause damage to your eyes. You need to wear sun protection even when indoors if you are wanting to ensure protection. UVB (burn/cancer) rays go through glass. UVA (aging) rays are even more omnipresent. They reflect off surfaces and emit from screens so even away from windows they reach you!

Eeekk. I'll need to get spf on as it's the only place I can set up my desk so can't move away from it and it's a real sun trap!

I think glass stops uvb, but uva is not stopped by it.

OP think about people who have driven vehicles all their lives. One side of their face is much more aged than the other. There is an extreme example somewhere online. I will see if i can find it

Glass blocks UVB rays (responsible for burning) but not UVA (responsible for cancer, ageing, freckles etc). So yes, if you are sat in direct sunlight through a window then wear SPF.

But, unless you are taking a supplement then make sure you do get out a bit, as it's UVB which helps the body make Vit D!

@joeExoticsEyebrowRing - I've been taking Vit D since this all kicked off but I do try and go for a walk daily. Can't wait for this weekend when finally ill be able to sit in a park! Hopefully.

@Damnthatanxiety - that picture is frightening! I've never seen it before.

Correction - people are right, most UVB is blocked by glass. My error.
