Am partway through bleaching hair to blonde and veering back and forth over going for another round of bleach before toning, or counting blessings that I haven't yet melted any hair and toning now - wwyd?
Pics of current state attached - lighter pic is in direct sunlight, others in natural light.

I am not a hairdresser fyi.
What toner do you have? You still have quite an orange base so would need a toner that counteracts that.
I have bleached my own roots in lockdown and had some yellow patches so I bleached again on those with 20vol and then toned.

I think you may be able to bleach again with a lower vol (what vol did you use?) or a bleach bath just to get the orange to a more yellow and then tone. I cant tell the condition of your hair though but doesnt look damaged to me

If you are aiming for blonde then your hair probably needs bleaching again to get the red tones out.

The toner I have is cool blonde.

In some lights it looks really yellow and I feel like I shouldn't push my luck, then in others really orange (as per photos) and like it definitely needs lifting again.

I used 20vol initially as find I can't work fast enough to keep up with 30/40vol. Then a bleach shampoo with 40vol a day later. It feels marginally rougher when dry and some parts feel a little tacky to comb through after washing, so definitely some damage has been done but I don't think too much. I had elasticiser on overnight and it felt much smoother this morning.

I don't know. Maybe I'll leave it for now, do a few weeks of deep conditioning then go for another round.

Personally I would bleach again with a 20 and keep a very close eye on it and rinse as soon as it has lifted a shade or 2 max.
It would be the 40 bleach bath that has damaged your hair I think.
All depends on the starting point, was it virgin hair or box dyed etc.
I've read that you can put a load of coconut oil (pure, not a hair one) on and bleach over that to protect your hair somewhat.
After bleaching, loads of hair masks to try and keep it in a good state and a good trim when hairdressers reopen.

Thanks for the advice. Have been using coconut oil Smile Was virgin hair - had been growing all the old colour etc out for about 3 years so it would be a nice blank canvas to get it dyed blonde 'properly' by a hairdresser Blush Oh well, not anymore!

It needs lightening further for blonde especially an ash blonde. I would highlight it slowly from there, but as you are doing it yourself that could get messy and complicated

What toner are people using? I'm looking for ashy white blond but don't even know where to start with brand... sorry to highjack!

Nathan depends on your colour now and whether you can buy from a hair suppliers.
From watching millions of youtube videos I would say wella T18 is very popular and is an ash blonde, you can purchase that easily online. Also Jerome russell does toners that can be bought in supermarkets, b&m, savers etc. It goes for 3 - 4quid and seems to have great reviews, the silver might appeal to you.
