Where do your teen DDs shop for clothes if they like 90s style?

After some recommendations!

DD is 13. She's 5'10" - this is relevant as it makes shopping harder! She's insecure about her height and developing a bit of a quirky style which is helping her with that. She likes Urban Outfitters but you don't get much for your money there.

She's trying to convince me to let her order from Shein but I'm wary because a) it has terrible reviews re: quality and b) at 5'10" she's really unlikely to fit their sizing.

Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

I was coming in to suggest Urban Outfitters. My daughter is 6ft and gets most of her clothes there. Some of her friends have bought from Shein and she wasn’t impressed with the quality. She also shops in Topshop (tall section for jeans) and likes Brandy Melville for tops and skirts. Getting jeans in the looser leg style she wants is a real challenge as she has a 38’’ inside leg. She really likes a pair we got from Long Tall Sally but they were expensive.

Asos, yopshop, boohoo.

LittleFuckersAbout · 27/05/2020 19:07

Monki, H&M, New Look also. Pull & Bear through ASOS.

Shein isn't that bad (although ethically I have my concerns). You get what you pay for.

H&m is good because it tells you the height of the models wearing the clothes (I use the app not sure if it says this online)
And most of them are 5ft 10 ish and look amazing!
I'm very envious!
They have some really nice 90's ish style clothes that I would give my left tit to be able to pull off...

bronzedgodesswannabe · 27/05/2020 19:10

Also ASOS

SwayingInTime · 27/05/2020 19:16

We recently discovered bershka, it’s owned by Zara so assume long limbed fit models too! We didn’t order as my girls are midgets but they swooned over the 90s styles.

StampMc · 27/05/2020 19:23

Dd likes pull & bear and Zara for 90s jeans but she tends to get a lot of her tops at supermarkets, charity shops and cheap places like peacocks. She has a very good eye though and sews so she can modify. She loves urban outfitters but it’s beyond her budget so she only has a couple of things from there.

IHeartKingThistle · 27/05/2020 20:47

Brilliant, she's happily googling!

@FeedMeWell if your DD has any tips to help mine love her height I'd be grateful!

Mine is very into vintage shops/kilo sales. But if you will buy her some good jeans - topshop are best and will have 90s style and do longer length. If you’ve got your jeans sorted the rest will follow. A lot of the 90s vintage stuff is fairly jumbled and they often wear it over sized so she can get men’s stuff as well for the plaid shirts and sweatshirts.

Chochito · 27/05/2020 23:34

Zara, also H&M (you have to rifle through)

FourFlapjacksPlease · 27/05/2020 23:39

Mine is shopping obsessed and also very into 90's fashion and Urban Outfitters. She loves Brandi Melville - buys loads from there and when she gets fed up with it she sells it on depop and buys some more! Depop is also good for buying bits for that age group if she likes vintage/second hand.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 27/05/2020 23:39

Another suggestion for Monki. It’s very similar in style to urban outfitters but waaaay cheaper

Sgtmajormummy · 27/05/2020 23:44

Bershka.
It’s a point in your favour coolness-wise for DD and her classmates (13yos) if you’re slim enough to wear Bershka. They stop at a 14 I think.
Some rather inappropriate graphics (I refuse to buy a T-shirt with booby mermaids or “Girls! Girls! Girls!”on it) but very 90s.

SingingSands · 28/05/2020 00:20

Urban Outfitters, Topshop, Depop and H&M for my teen.

FeedMeWell · 28/05/2020 01:45

@IHeartKingThistle she does struggle with it sometimes. It is better now she is older (17) and the boys in her class are catching up. I’ve always been really positive about her height and talk about the advantages of being tall. She said the other day that she realises it looks better to be tall and ‘own it’ than to try to disguise it. I think part of it is getting past that stage when you just want to be the same as everyone else and learning to appreciate the things that make you different. She always gets a great view at concerts and even though she isn’t very sporty her height does give her some physical advantages in PE. She sees positive posts on Instagram by girls her height and taller and that helps too.

IHeartKingThistle · 28/05/2020 08:55

@FeedMeWell thank you so much. You're right, 13 is right in the thick of wanting to fit in! You sound like a great mum.

Agree with the above, Berska, Pull & Bear, Asos, H&M, Urban Outfitters (which i like to go into for a laugh at their vintage section). My DD also sells on Depop and Vinted.
