Striking dye for my greys.

So, not sure if this is possible. I have dark-ish brown hair but in recent years have quite a bit of grey to the front of my head. (I actually have grey all over but the main concentration is in my fringe and where I part my hair at the front. I was wondering if I used a striking hair dye, the kind that doesn't work well on my dark hair, would it colour the grey?

Following because your hair sounds like mine. Mine is mostly around the temples.
I dont know what you mean by striking hair dye though.

Yes it probably would cover, but it would look weird, because your grey is probably not in even streaks like highlights, but in patches. So whereas purple streaks might look a bit funky, purple temples would look odd.
Unless you can manage to make it look streaked, but I can't imagine how.

Depends which dye you use.

Box dyes contain an unknown strength developer which means that you actually lighten (bleach) your hair when using them. They bump your colour down so that you get a more even colour result after dying, more similar to what the pictures on the box show.

So even if you use a blonde dye on black hair, your hair will stay black but might have a slight red/orange tint afterwards as it has been lightened by the developer.

So I’d recommend buying a salon hair dye with a 10 volume developer instead of box dye, to prevent the rest of your hair from being altered - unless you don’t mind of course.

The grey in my hair is kind of like a Mallen streak to the front, a bit like Rogue in x-men or Polgara the sorceress, but not as perfect. I have a few random greys around the rest of my head but the concentration is right to the front. I used to deliberately dye coloured streaks to the front like that when I was in my 20s but it was a lot of work to, keep the streaks separate, bleach it first and I was limited to reds, pinks, purples. I was wondering if something like Schwartzkopf blue or turquoise might work.

I’m sort of imagining the blueyness taking over the red tones that are naturally in my hair with bright blue where the grey is. But I fear I’d end up with a weird tinge on my brown hair and pale blue in the grey that fades completely after a wash or two.

Do you want it to be like a funky colour or just blend in?

I've got a slight sprinkling though my mid brown hair and just today bought a toning brunette shampoo to try and see if it darkens the greys slightly. So you could try that?

I don't know if it is going to do anything but it was only £5 so thought I'd try it out
