Can you get poly filler for your face?!

I've got oily skin with cystic acne, scars and stretched pores. Is there a primer that will fill them in? I usually use a mattifying primer but I'm hoping there's something better.

I've seen the NYX Pore Filler primer. Has anyone used that? It's hard to tell how good it is from online reviews.

I was on a Teams call this week and realised that my make up had just sunk into a stretched pore I have on my forehead and it looked like I had a gaping crater on my face Sad

Help please!

Thanks for the recommendations everyone. Cakey is good if it plugs up the holes Grin

I think I'm going to give the NYX fore filler a go if I can manage to find any. It seems to be sold out. As does The Ordinary rosehip oil... all us acne sufferers must be bulk buying ready for lockdown to be lifted!

Im using the elf poreless putty primer but I wouldn't say its amazing. Ok at best. I got it as Jeffree raved about it but I think there are probably better ones about.

Following with interest as I have exactly the same problem.

Allnamesaregone · 28/05/2020 20:01

My cystic acne is gone now, OP- I’m older than you.
The only thing thar kept it at bay in my 20s was low dose antibiotics. Pregnancy was the thing that killed it off completely but I still have the scars and I hate my open pores. Menopause has not reduced the grease 😕

MushroomTree · 28/05/2020 20:02

I've actually just ordered the ELF putty so we'll see. If that doesn't work I'll try the NYX one next.

@Allnamesaregone pregnancy did wonders for me but it was back with a vengeance as soon as the cord was cut!

I've finally got a dermatologist referral so hopefully they'll give me something to see it off for good.

I sympathise as I struggled with adult acne too. As far as make up primers go I haven't had much luck but the NYX stuff sounds pretty good. Also Estée Lauder double wear foundation in winter and IT cosmetics CC cream in the summer (or when my skin is dry from acne treatments).

Have you tried Epiduo? It's the only thing that worked for my cystic acne, it shrinks those boil like spots amazingly! I've tried literally all the other prescription options (except Accutane) and Epiduo is the winner.

MushroomTree · 29/05/2020 11:25

Thanks @coronawoes. It's so much trial and error isn't it?

I haven't tried Epiduo. They've given me more Adaplene until I see the dermatologist so we'll see how that goes.

Update! The NYX primer arrived so I tried it yesterday. I didn't put any other make up on because I wanted to see how well it did.

Well I'm pretty impressed. It didn't fill in the massive crater on my forehead but then I don't think anything will. However, it did do a very good job of blurring and minimising the rest of my pores.

Most impressively it kept my face matte for pretty much the whole day. There was a slight sheen by 5PM but it was nothing in comparison to the usual oil slick I get before midday usually.

The e.l.f primer should arrive today so I'll try that tomorrow and report back!

Have you heard of dermatica? Online dermatologist. Costs £20 a month and you get prescription skincare sent to your door. It's amazing. You can cancel or suspend your subscription whenever you want too. It means you no longer have to go with your gp or pay £300 to see a dermatologist privately.

MushroomTree · 03/06/2020 09:52

@Barkingfuckingdogs I've got a referral to a dermatologist so I'm waiting for them to contact me. If I get no luck there then I'll look into dermatica. Thank you

Hi @mushroomtea I just wanted to give you my experience.
Similar to yours but my acne is hormonal... cystic and around my chin area. I used everything over the years including roaccutaine that didn't work. The only thing that has worked is a tablet called spironolactone. Please google its affects on acne, there's loads of info online but most people (including my gp) haven't heard of it. For me it's a wonder drug, I noticed the difference after 3 days of taking it.
It isn't licensed as an acne treatment, it's actually a blood pressure medication. Because of this it can only be prescribed by a dermatologist because a gp can't prescribe off license.

About the primers, I currently have the nyx pore fillet, it's ok but not the best. The best one I have ever used is called This Works In Transit Camera Close Up, it's around £30. It is AMAZING! It's a moisturiser/primer so I don't use a separate day moisturiser. Once applied it feels quite tacky for a few mins and then really mattyfies your skin, it's the only thing that lasts ALL day and makes your make up go further. I use Estée Lauder double wear light and find this combo perfect for covering acne all day
Good luck!

Thanks for sharing your experience @jeez20. It really is trial and error with acne isn't it?

I'm waiting for an appointment with a dermatologist so we can discuss different treatment options and hopefully find something that works.
