What styling tool do I need?

I have no idea what to buy and really don’t want to buy lots of things to find they’re wrong.
I have fine, shoulder length hair. It has a slight wave in it and tends to just look messy/thin when down. I blow dry in the morning and it’s ok freshly brushed but looks gradually crapper and crapper.
I did have a babyliss big hair once and didn’t find it did much. I used to have straighteners but they were cheap and I couldn’t straighten properly with them as they didn’t run through my hair properly
I want to wear my hair down and it look nice - professionAl for work and just not messy/scruffy generally.
Do I need straighteners eg ghd that will work? Do I try a different version of big hair? Something else? Please help me! I don’t have big bucks to spend but could stretch to ghds if they would solve my problem. I’m just not convinced they’re the way forward
Ps - recognise how trivial this is during virus etc

How do you want it to look? Curly? Straight?

twolittleboysonetiredmum · 27/05/2020 07:49

Ideally it would be like a more permanent and fuller version of my slightly wavy hair!
That or straight

I really like my Dyson Airwrap. I use the regular brushes the most and they make it look like a really good straight blow dry, not too flat. Very occasionally, I wave it with the curling barrels. I’m really, really bad at blow drying hair, but find this easy to use. I have hair quite like yours.

I love my dyson airwrap there pretty expensive but work really well I had a cheaper version before and it just didn't last.

Another vote for Dyson Airwrap. I love mine, it's the only tool I've ever bought that I can really achieve a hairdresser-like finish with. It's actually saved me a fortune on hairdresser blow dries for events.

If you aren't sure, but it through QVC, you can pay in easy-pay instalments and return it if you don't find it works for you. (Update - just looked on the website fora link and it's out of stock on there atm).

Thanks - they look and sound amazing but are wayyyy out of my budget. I always hear good things about Dyson hair styling products too

I really like using heated rollers. I’ve got the babyliss ones. They’re only £35 and I just put them in, leave for half an or so and I’m left with bouncier hair. They don’t make my hair curly but just add volume and make it a bit smoother. I don’t bother to blow dry before so not much damage either.

A large barrel curling wand will give the nicely wavy look and once done will last a couple of days. There’s loads of cheap second hand ones on eBay so you can try them out

I really like a rotating hot brush. I am not very good at styling own hair but the rotating action really helps.I find I can run it through hair for volume blow dry or hold it in place in each section for a wavier, more done effect. I have had two John Frieda rotating hot brushes but see it is currently unavailable on amazon. I reckon any brand would be a good as another as long as it has the same rotating action. I have thick poker straight hair Smile

I’ve just received my Dyson Airwrap and I’m already in love with it. It is eyewateringly expensive, however you can apply to pay over 12 months on the Dyson website, or interest free for 6 months on Curry’s if that helps in any way?

I had literally tried every product to curl and add volume including the Babyliss brush and a Babyliss Pro curling wand and couldn’t use any but now I can add volume or curls/waves with ease!

twolittleboysonetiredmum · 27/05/2020 22:13

Is a rotating hot brush what a babyliss big hair is or different? Never thought about curling my hair - interesting idea

I'd get ghd - thin ones, and learn to use them to curl. Then you have the option of straight or curly. If you make proper ringlets then brush it out and hair spray it will leave a nice wave!
