Best way to get rid of freckles

My freckles are dark brown and all over my face, I hate them. Some of them have merged into large blemishes in unflattering shapes (I look like I have a moustache Hmm). I would prefer to order something online than go to a salon (all shut anyway). I'm 40 but have generally good skin, albeit a bit oily & prone to spots on my chin. I tan quite well in summer but go quite pale in winter but my freckles are with me all year round. I suspect some of them are starting to merge with age spots as well.

My freckles are like that on my cheeks.
I use 4% Hydroquinone, you can also add a retinol to your skin routine. I've also had success with a laser on the darkest of the freckles.
Sunscreen factor 50 everyday without fail.
It takes about 4 weeks or so to see results.

Thanks for your reply. I had read about Hydroquinone being effective but also controversial. I'll have a look into it. Did you try 2% first or just start with 4%?

Bumping to see if anyone else can help? I realise I won't probably be able to get rid of them completely, but it would be great if anyone knew of any more effective ways to fade them?

In boots you can buy a foundation which is used to cover scars etc. That should work

easterbunny123 · 26/05/2020 08:52

I know this doesn't answer your question but fwiw I think freckles are absolutely gorgeous, even the heavy ones like you describe, and they make people look unique.

So if you can't get rid of them, please don't feel self conscious about them.

My skin is like this

Using sunblock helps to prevent this (one day without sunscreen and it’s bad!)

Vitamin C under sunblock

Retinol A cream at night

That keeps it at bay, and manageable

But one day of forgetting sun cream & hat and it takes a year to fade them

I agree with easterbunny123 - I have them, but hated them as a child & growing up. As I’ve grown older, I’ve just accepted them & to be honest I’m glad I have them now, girls, women are actually drawing them on!

I use to try & cover them with heavy make up in my teens, I can’t really do that now & I wouldn’t want to, I look much better with them showing.

Delatron · 26/05/2020 15:47

I had a laser treatment and it really faded them. The pigmentation darkens and then flakes off. Have to be super careful in the sun now. It was expensive though!

Then I use vitamin C and Retin A.

I did used to like mine when younger but they do develop a bit in to age spots I think.

Delatron · 26/05/2020 15:47

And yes I never wear foundation to cover them.

Ineedtobecalm · 26/05/2020 17:26

IPL. But if you're slack on SPF 50 they'll be back. Mine still aren't fully back after 13 years. I would have a second round if I had the cash

Thanks for the tips. I do appreciate freckles are "in" at the moment, but that is a cute light evenly spread smattering across the nose and top of the cheeks, of small circles. Mine are actually merged into large dark blemishes on my whole face, including two large ones above my mouth which look like a moustache.

Think something like this (this is a model) for now covered my face is and the colour of the freckles. Main difference is my skin underneath is browner and some have merged into large shapes whereas these look separated.

I get what you're saying OP. And the 'light smattering' is usually across the pert nose on a golden tanned face. It's not the likes of you or me who could get a part as an extra in 101 Dalmations. No ideas but sympathy and a fist bump.

Annettebee · 27/05/2020 01:24

Sorry for the slow response, I use 4% hydroquinone.

KingSheathBelle · 27/05/2020 01:34

Niacinamide treats hyperpigmentation, The Ordinary does it.
