Non-ugly changing bag - suitable for me and DH

Recommendations please!

Looking for something that will last for at least 2 babies (both in terms of style and sturdyness), be practical as possible for everyday use, fit with a man or woman carrying it, and v. important isn't hideous to look at.

I usually carry a leather cross body bag and DH has a backpack for when he needs a bag.

My style is pretty feminine floral dresses etc. and DH is a jeans and t-shirts kind of guy.

Although at the moment I'm thinking not even bothering to get a changing bag until we are aloud outside again Grin

Baby is due end of July, budget isn't massive but happy to look at second hand options as well.

You don't need it to be an official change bag.

I would look at backpacks.

Use "messy" bags inside for soiled clothes etc.

RandomMess · 24/05/2020 17:44

You can buy folding change mats separately too.

HairsprayBabe · 24/05/2020 17:47

Yeah not bothered about it being a "official" changing bag just interested in seeing what other people have used.

We have the Pacapod hartland rucksack . Year 3 going strong. Pods are so useful for hanging off Pram etc. Lots more to their range these days ....

GeriGeranium · 24/05/2020 17:53

We bought a folding changing mat (skip hop), then just put that in whatever bag we wanted to use. Good idea to keep a wet bag in there too for messy/wet clothes.

MummaGiles · 24/05/2020 17:59

Seconding pacapod

I've had Babymoov bags for both my DCs. Bought them from Amazon. Both bags have been amazing, loads of room and pockets and have lasted years. They come with extras like a changing mat, bottle bag, nappy bag etc.

I tried a back pack but it got on my nerves as I couldn't find anything in it! Would probably be ok when a bit older with less stuff being carried around

RandomMess · 24/05/2020 18:15

We just used a plain navy messenger bag, went over the pram handlebar or shoulder or across body.

It would carry change mat, 2 x washable nappies, 2 x disposable nappies, wipes, nappy sacks, emergency sleepsuit. I breastfed.

I used a Longchamp Le Pliage as I bloody hated proper changing bags. It was roomy enough and still looked chic.

If you are looking for a more "official" changing bag, Babble Roo have some great unisex backpack designs and some great features, like the way it clips onto your buggy. They are not expensive and you can get them on Amazon.

I also love the Babymel Cara Ultra-Lite if you want a more over the shoulder style but your DH may find a little feminine. John Lewis sell them.

Tiba+Marl also make amazing bags that DH would not mind using but they are v pricey!

Love Katie x

DD vomited all over the "official" changing bag when she was a few weeks old. I had to go out later that day with the pram & stuff and just grabbed my work laptop bag ... and used it for the next 3.5yrs (2 DC).

I got a grey and white backpack from Amazon which I used for about a year.

It doesn't entirely qualify as non-ugly and you can't open it one-handed but I found the insulated pockets useful for weaning and the waterproof pocket good for leaked-on clothes.

Just before lockdown, DS now being 18 months, I bought 2 wet bags and a changing pouch like this to use in a Le Pliage or my Dr Martens nylon backpack. I'm more likely to need a book and toys than muslins and spare vests now.

We’ve got the deluxe changing mat from Jojo for just out and about near home which is great as it has pockets for nappies and wipes, otherwise we have a Mia Tui Jenny bag in tan which I love. Lots of pockets, including two insulated ones for bottles, loads of room for spare clothes and muslins, and it came with a free clear pouch, cross body bag/clutch and changing mat.

Crikey0000 · 24/05/2020 22:51

Just buy a bag you like that's quite big & sturdy. You're sold so much shite when you're pregnant. Don't be fooled.

User478 · 24/05/2020 22:56

We use a kanken: www.fjallraven.com/uk/en-gb/bags-gear/kanken/save-the-arctic-fox/kanken-rainbow?v=F23620%3a%3a7323450597948

I had a cross body bag to start with, but as DD spent all her time in the sling I switched to a backpack pretty quickly.

harper30 · 24/05/2020 23:08

I got one of these and loved it, DP liked using it too

We have the Pacapod Saunton in pewter which is a nice grey faux leather. It can be worn as a crossbody or as a backpack and comes with clips to put it on the buggy handle.

The pods and interior pockets are really handy for organising and finding stuff quickly, and you can just take the change pod and mat with you if you're going to the loo or nipping out somewhere. I wanted something smart and this does the job.

I also have one of the famed change backpacks for travel, got it for £13 off amazon. It's grand, but the Pacapod holds more and it's easier to find things.

rankoutsider · 25/05/2020 00:11

We have the Joolz nursery bag, very spacious and lots of useful compartments. It's comfortable to carry or hangs on the pram.
