How much do you spend on clothes for DC?

Per year? Just curious, really! I'm considering setting myself a budget now that DC is past the baby stage and won't need new things every three months or so. Hoping to buy fewer but good quality items, but once you factor in everything they need throughout the year from swimsuits to snowsuits then realistically it's still quite a lot of stuff!

No idea, but very little! My dc are 14 and 12 now and neither is remotely interested in clothes, plus they obviously spend a lot of time wearing school uniform. Emo dd would happily live in the same pair of black jeans and band t-shirt permanently! I've never really gone for high quality items for them, because children grow out of things pretty quickly and often stain or damage clothes. Plus when they were little we used to get very nice hand-me-downs from a friend.

not sur exactly how much I spent, but took advantage of 70% off sales, a d put them away for when appropriate..saved £££ doing this, and bought some lovely.clothes! It's a bit different now she's nearly a teenager mind!

My dc are primary school age, only spend about £150 a year on each as they grow so fast. Tend to buy them clothes from Tesco or Sainsbury, again because they grow fast, the clothes last well and nice designs for kids.

About £30 to £50.00 pcm per child. If a shoe month then £100.00

really depends. I have a 10 year old and a teen. Teen is not bothered about clothes and she is growing slowly so wear most clothes and shoes easily a year. She has a few dresses, jeans, shorts but nothing OTT. My younger one is a EMO girl in the making just needs the 2 versions of the same outfit (so she can wear her fav shirt and trousers also when they are in the wash). I don't think I spend more than 150-200 on each of them annually and that includes school uniforms.

Also, we have a washing machine so really don't need dozens of items of tops, trousers etc. We just stick them into the wash.

We are not into brands at all which probably helps to keep cost down too.

Probably around £250 per year including school clothes

WillowB · 24/05/2020 13:07

School uniform - £70
Clark's shoes twice a year £70
Other bits approx £100
Coat £30

So probably getting on for £300.
This is just for DS who is 8. His brother gets the hand me downs!
I tend to buy things that will last with this in mind. Jojo Maman, Boden & joules in the sales. TU clothes are great and have lasted well. Asda not so much so. I buy lots from H&M at the minute.

I think once they’re in school uniform you can get by on two or three outfits per season. Plus special occasions.
DD is 14 and has had a year to grow out of her summer clothes. With lockdown video lessons not needing uniform she’s been washing and wearing the same three “cool” tshirts on rotation!
At her age it’s lower frequency but higher price. With only a certain type of trainers or jacket acceptable by peers it can easily be €100 a month.

Taking school uniform out of the equation I probably buy 2-3 pairs shoes per year (trainers, winter shoes, sandals) and then top them up with seasonal stuff as an when they have a growth spurt or need it. The 5 year old inherits a lot of my 9 year olds hand me downs, I buy Boden, M&S and Next as it's such good quality it lasts for years and can be handed down well.
I seem to buy a huge amount of underpants and socks!
My 18 year old tends to buy his own stuff and has done for a few years (he has an allowance and a part time job).

Teenager is the most expensive!
