Need waterproof boots...

For dog walking in long we grass.

Need to be supportive so wellies are no good because my feet are buggered and can walk up to 2 hours.

Are modern walking boots 100% waterproof or do you have to faff and maintain them?

Following as I can’t bear wellies! They are so stiff and unsupportive my feet cramp up every time I wear them. I bought the crock waterproof boots but they’ve come up small bit I can’t bear returning them! They also have elasticated side thingies which aren’t waterproof

My berghaus boots seem reliably waterproof. I give them a wash and treat with a nikwax spray very occasionally but that's reallyno faff.

I do stuff like conservation volunteering ... in wet vegetation in the rain sometimes. I got some sealskinz waterproof socks to be on the safe side but they've never got damp yet.

Have a look at Merrell waterproof boots.

I have had a couple of pairs of winter boots that have seen me through the last few years of watching DC play sport and are warm and waterproof. They have a range of waterproof hiking/winter boots.

I also have some of their vibram trainers and also sandals - can't recommend them highly enough.

I think most modern walking boots with a Goretex or similar membrane, and a gusseted tongue should be essentially waterproof tbh. The difficulty buying them at the moment is that you really do need to try them on and walk around to see if they suit your feet. My DD has ostensibly the same size feet as me (she permanently borrowed my waterproof ASICS trail shoes ...) but we couldn't wear each other's boots.

RandomMess · 25/05/2020 23:40

Some of the Merrell boots are described as being narrow fit 😭 I think I will have to wait until shops reopen.

I have been wearing Aldi kids zip boots cost £10ish and lasted 5 years, gutted that they've died!

When I asked the same question here a couple of years ago somebody suggested waterproof socks to me . I had never heard of them , however bought a couple of pairs and they were brilliant. Totally waterproof.
I wore them with trainers as I was on my feet in and out all day long in all weathers in my job working with severely autistic young people , walking miles every day . Just an idea .

Waterproof could be handy too, needs boots for when it's muddy too and if I want to use the stepping stones. Would be ok when it's just wet grass though!

Some Go outdoors stores have opened already.

Oh, that's interesting. We're actually pondering boot purchase ourselves, we've got DDs BF staying and he's not got any with him. DH was looking into it and apparently Blacks have come up with a system which is something like, if you tell them what trainers fit you then they will come up with some suggestions and a probability of whether they'll fit you. He did a dummy run on his own footwear and the suggestions included the type and size he got himself recently.

I have Dubarry boots. They are waterproof and very supportive and comfortable. I’ve worn them for walks of several miles. Admittedly not cheap but I love mine.

copycopypaste · 26/05/2020 12:55

Have a look at 'country biits' in equestrian stores. I used these as they are supportive and waterproof.

I've got Dubarry as well and use them to walk the dog too. Can do miles in them without getting sore feel or wet feet and legs

I bought hiking boots and my feet are dry. £24.99 from mountain warehouse.

RandomMess · 26/05/2020 13:19

Lays down having googled dubarry boots...

Can they definitely be reheeled?

I have some neoprene wellies with a proper vibram sole. They are as grippy as most walking boots and great for long wet grass. Grubs, Hogg's or if you're rich, Le Chameau offer them. Le Chameau are similar in price to Dubarry boots (which I'd love but can't justify)

Mine haven’t needed it yet.

I just wear mountain warehouse hiking boots. Around 25 quid and comfy/dry. I can't wade through a stream but they are fine for wet grass/mud.

Annabk · 26/05/2020 17:53

I work outdoors with dogs day in day out (not at present obviously) and wear Muck Boots 365 days a year Grin They are comfy and breathable.
Specifically Muckster II Ankle boots.
