Tinting eyelashes at home

I've been having my eyelashes tinted black by a beauty therapist for 16 years and I haven't had them touched since the start of the year. I have very fair eyelashes. Can anyone recommend a tint you use at home for your eyelashes?

I’m sitting in the bathroom right now waiting for mine to develop! First time I’ve tried it but it’s been fine and looks great.

I bought a refectocil kit in blue black off eBay, it has the developer and a brush included. Not expensive and there’s plenty of tutorials on YouTube on how to do it. It’s saved me £20 a month!

All the instructions say to use 2 cm dye to 10 drops developer but I’d halve that next time. I did lower lashes first to make sure it looked ok but next time I’ll just slap it all on at once, I didn’t get any in my eyes and managed to get fairly close to the roots but if you need to go right down I’d recommend doing one eye at a time so you can keep it shut.

I used to use the ColourSport kit from Boots. Now I just buy the components separately. SuperDrug are likely to sell a kit too.

Remember to do a patch test first.

As above, you only need half the suggestions amount.

Thank you ladies, really helpful. @MolotovMocktail would you recommend the blue/black or black? I've had both at salons in the past but I don't really remember what looks more dramatic.

I used the mylee one and was impressed with it.

I’ve always been told by beauticians that blue black is the boldest so I go for that but I doubt there’s much in it really.

Caroline Barnes does an easy peasy tutorial on YouTube. I followed it to the letter and it worked really well

Refectocil in blue/black from Amazon works best for me (I'm blonde and find it looks fine). Used to use Eyelure but they changed it a few years back and I found it useless after then.

What's the consistency you should get once you mix the developer and tint? I've just mixed some for a patch test for my eyebrows and the three drops of activator were huge compared to the 1cm of tint. Was super watery!

Tinkletwat · 18/05/2020 23:05

Sorry, just saw this now so imagine you've finished. I get it to more of a paste so a bit thicker than what you've described.

So I did my patch test a few days ago with my product and it seems I'm all good to go. How would you recommend applying the tint to lashes? My lashes are very very long (including the lower ones) and they are blonde so I need to try and do good coverage. I have a pot and a brush for application.

Tinkletwat · 29/05/2020 15:00

I put Vaseline around the skin then apply with the mascara wand shaped tool that came with it. Don't rinse away the stuff you've mixed up as you might want to do it twice for depth of colour, or if it stings you can wash off then reapply.

RuffRiders · 29/05/2020 15:03

Tinkletwat I do the same.

I also leave mine on for ages. I do one eye at a time in case I go blind so I can see Blush

Earnsomething · 29/05/2020 15:05

I do mine myself. I can't remember why I tried it the first time, but it was so easy I never went to a salon again, the kit costs about the same as one visit and lasts ages.

What I would say is make sure you cover all the skin around your eyes with vaseline first.
