Do silk pillow cases work?

To make your fave less creased when you wake up?

I woke up after a bad nights sleep today with a line by my mouth looking really deep! Arghhhhhh!

I didn't notice any difference to be honest

SciFiScream · 15/05/2020 16:03

I think there might be some benefit. I've been sleeping with silk pillowcases for a while now and my lines haven't got worse (I don't do anything else though!) I also have noticed my head doesn't get as sweaty and my hair isn't as rugby in the morning.

It's a lovely feeling so worth it for that I think. I found pillowcases silk on one side only for £8. Got two.

SciFiScream · 15/05/2020 16:04

Rugby? Rugby? I wrote tuggy how dare you autocorrect me! Grin

dalrympy · 15/05/2020 16:40

No!

HasaDigaEebowai · 15/05/2020 16:40

No. They feel nice though.

PlanDeRaccordement · 15/05/2020 16:41

Waste of money.

DirtyTicket · 15/05/2020 16:41

I've had a couple of different types and never noticed any difference to my face.

GrumpyHoonMain · 15/05/2020 16:43

Satin pillow cases can sometimes make a difference to hair but never heard of it or silk making a difference for wrinkles.

Lily193 · 15/05/2020 17:41

Silk pillowcases are amazing. I wake up with perfectly smooth hair and plump, unlined skin. Thy're beautifully cool and don't absorb skin care products.

HasaDigaEebowai · 15/05/2020 18:01

I think that's just lucky you lily. I've used silk pillowcases for years and I can confirm that I don't have plump unlined skin. My hair is no different to the way it is when I use a good cotton pillowcase.

Mnthrowaway20202 · 15/05/2020 18:06

I don’t use them for my skin but for my hair. Honestly can’t say whether it’s made a difference or not because my hair inherently looks pretty shit thanks to salon closures

Tiramisuiloveyou · 15/05/2020 18:08

I bought some for night sweats as menopausal but they didn't make any difference

HundredMilesAnHour · 15/05/2020 18:08

I've used them for a few years and find they make no real difference. But they feel lovely.

Silk hair wraps definitely make a difference to my hair though.

Greenteandchives · 15/05/2020 18:10

I don’t notice any difference with my hair, but I don’t wake up with pillow creases in my face any more.

Foals · 15/05/2020 18:22

You don't get pillow creases but I think they are an infrequent thing anyway aren't they rather than it happening all the time.

My hair which is shoulder length, fine and easily tangled stays a little smoother but only by 25-30% on a good night rather than amazingly smooth.

Silk pillowcases do feel nice though. I also wash mine with the rest of the bedding and towels on 60 degrees, iron it with a hot steam iron and it comes out absolutely perfect. If you're going to get one, get a quality one from a reputable high quality retailer. The cheapie ones online shrink and are a lot thinner and lighter and hardly last a few washes. Mine was a quality one (around £45 for reference) and is probably going on 3 years old now and it really looks the same as it did new.

bettyboo40 · 15/05/2020 18:25

I didn't notice any difference to my face or hair, but they do feel nice to sleep on

Foals · 15/05/2020 18:26

Tiramisuiloveyou I have found for night sweats that all-natural bedding is best, from the sheets and duvet cover (100% cotton) to the quilt itself (feather) and also including things like throws/blankets. The fleece/fur/polywool blankets are nice to look at on a bed but there's no doubt they are sweatier. Same for manmade fibre quilts rather than feather ones. If you haven't tried a decent feather duvet I highly recommend them. (not the cheap ones, they shed feathers and can be prickly!)

HollyBollyBooBoo · 15/05/2020 19:08

Lovely to sleep on, particularly cool in summer but no they make no difference to hair or skin.

CuppaZa · 15/05/2020 19:10

My hair is smoother and much less knotty when I have a satin pillow case

Dhalandchips · 15/05/2020 19:10

Haven't noticed a difference but I love the feel of it.

Lily193 · 15/05/2020 19:16

HasaDigaEebowai I'm not usually lucky....I didn't mention that I also use about 4 layers of different serums and creams and drink my own body weight in water so maybe that helps. I do get face creases with some hotel pillows though, so I'm not totally immune.

Bloomburger · 15/05/2020 19:18

Yes I wake up with lovely smooth hair and my face looks a lot less crinkly. Even DH noticed. We have the White Company ones.

LuxuryWoman2020 · 15/05/2020 19:28

They’re not a miracle item but lovely to sleep on and slight benefits to hair and skin I think.

SciFiScream · 15/05/2020 19:33

Oh yeah! The pillow/face creases I'd forgotten about those. I used to get them all the time. Haven't had them for ages and never with my silk pillowcases.

Toilenstripes · 15/05/2020 19:36

I’ve used them for several years for my hair and have seen a nice changed in the frizziness.
