Hello,

So about 4 days ago, I sat down with my second coffee (hot) and for some reason, decided to spill it all over my right leg Confused It was bloody agony!

I was wearing PJs and this seemed to prolong the burn, as the fabric soaked up the scolding hot coffee and pushed it against my skin.

As soon as I could, I took them off and then put an ice pack on it for a good 45 minutes or so. I've now found out you shouldn't do that 😒 It blistered almost immediately, but as she can see in the photo, that has now gone down, but it's still very red and painful to touch and to walk. It's just above my knee towards the outside of my leg, so when I walk, it stretches it, so a very unfortunate place to burn yourself 🤦‍♀️

Anyway, is there anything I can use to avoid permanent scarring and or discolouration? Or is that it for getting my legs out in the summer? Sad

I'm sure eventually I would embrace it - there are certainly worse things to get your head around, but my legs are one of the few features that I was happy with.

Anyway, any advice would be very much welcomed.

TIA

Mine was where op's is.

Italianmeringuebuttercream · 15/05/2020 19:10

Be careful using tegaderm as my daughter was allergic, as was my mum, myself and my son! None of us have had allergies to plasters or dressings before. Shame because I've heard it's an amazing product. I hope your burn heals soon op, rosehip oil is good for scars but I'd wait till it healed.

MoltonSilver · 15/05/2020 19:27

It looks very painful but I doubt it will leave a scar.

NutellaOnButteryToast · 16/05/2020 19:10

Thanks again everyone.

It's definitely looking angry today, but doesn't look infected, isn't hot etc. It definitely looks darker though, which is quite alarming. I showed my DM on a video chat today and she thinks I need to be seen, but it's not open, not weeping, so I'm not sure what they could do at this stage.

Oooh ouch. Yes that’s what my arm looked like - right on the upper part on the inner side (so the soft part). Also a 2cm x 1 cm one further down on my forearms. There no sign of either burn now.

NutellaOnButteryToast · 16/05/2020 19:29

@Lordfrontpaw, good to hear you're all healed now. There's hope!

I think you'll agree, I'd rock a mini right now Grin

If the skins broken blistered and about the size of your palm you need to go to a and e or minor injuries and have it dressed. Today. Dp scalded his hand this morning and the dr from 111 said a and e for the above reasons.

Lordfrontpaw · 16/05/2020 20:00

Mine went exactly like that when I went swimming and bumped it. It all peeled back and I waited until it dried out then yoinked it off. I shouldn’t have got it wet I suppose.

SpeedofaSloth · 16/05/2020 20:04

It's quite big, usually I think I might have got that seen in A&E. In my region the Minors unit has moved out of the acute and into a community hospital (just preempting any concern about going to an A&E just now).

BillywigSting · 16/05/2020 20:10

It probably won't scar but it's quite a big surface area and probably wants dressing properly by a nurse. Do you have a minor injuries unit near you?

I've had burns from deep fat fryer oil splashing all over my arm and from 500°c sugar that haven't scarred. I've also had a burn from a dropped cigarette that did (and was tiny so I didn't do anything to it except clean the ash off it). The right dressing makes all the difference.

NutellaOnButteryToast · 16/05/2020 20:22

We are quite close to a hospital actually. It will be almost a week if I go tomorrow though. Hasn't the damage already been done?

I guess the right dressing now might make the rest of the healing time go better?

hauntedvagina · 16/05/2020 22:03

I always thought the rule was of the burn was larger than a postage stamp, it should be looked at / dressed properly.

Whatsmynextmove · 16/05/2020 22:16

I did exactly the same thing to my leg about 10 years ago. I had to go to hospital and they dressed it and brought me back 3 more times to dress it and gave me antibiotics. I have no scar. The skin was a bit darker for a year or so afterwards but you can’t see anything at all now.

NutellaOnButteryToast · 18/05/2020 11:41

So I decided not to go in the end, as it seems to be starting the healing process, so don't think a nurse would want to dress it now.

It's started to become quite itchy, which I've been told is a good sign and the texture has changed and become quite dry.

Would now be a good time to start putting on some aloe vera or bio oil and the like?

Does anyone know if the oure aloe vera gel is as effective as straight from the plant?

I’ve seen people use aloe straight from the plant. Be careful if the skin is broken. I’d try to keep as dry as possible where you can.

There is burn cream you can get for healing burns.

It looks a LOT better though.

NutellaOnButteryToast · 18/05/2020 11:53

@Lordfrontpaw, I have before actually. I remember when my DD was about 6 months old, she was on my lap and I went to pick up my coffee (we clearly don't mix Confused ) and she randomly jerked back and the whole cup went over my chest and I was wearing a low cut top. Thank goodness it didn't spill on my DD!!

It was absolute agony and I remember using almost an entire plant on it! The redness disappeared within a couple of hours and I was back to normal after a couple of days. Absolute miracle stuff!

So annoyed I didn't have any to hand the other day. Tried ordering a plant, but can't get one delivered for weeks, so was going to give the gel a go, but I think it probably works best when you catch it straight away.

I think so too - but you can get aloe Vera cream (Nelsons) which is pretty good and I have used liquid vitamin E capsules on burns (squeezed out).

Glad it’s looking better. I really thought I would have a scar and a colleague said his daughter had a skin graft after something similar (boiling water) but I suppose a child’s skin is much more delicate.

Will this burn leave a scar? How long does this usually heal? (Picture attached)

I spilled boiling coffee on my pants and it soaked it and pushed against my skin. It took me 5, minutes before rinsing it with running water.

It's a 2nd degree burn because it has blisters, on the first day of it the redness doesn't go away and it was alarming for me. The blisters popped but the redness is still there. The redness is getting darker and it never left.

Will this leave a scar? I really love my legs it hurt my heart. What should I do? can you give me advice?

this is how it looks like before and after, the after is 10 days after the burn.

Hi - I’ve done this three times (sure I’ve done it more often but these are the ones I remember-

my shoulder
inside top of my arm
hip/side of belly/back

all hot water and all blistered up and really hurt like hell (the last one made me feel as if I was going to vomit).

My skin is very pale and I did wonder if I’d get a scar. No - they took a while to heal completely but no scar. I have a scar on my hand from a burn (open fire) when I was a small child but otherwise scar free (one bike accident, one, one from a bug bite that went nasty).

And when you burn (I do this a lot when I’m cooking) you need to submerge the are in water for a good 20 mins! I have burn cream in the kitchen (the gloopy gel is good as the more liquid ones just slide off). I also got burn packs from boots (a sterile pad with gel).

Hello, sorry I forgot my account that I posted the burn on. The wound is getting browner everyday. It doesn't hurt anymore, only in the first day. But I'm over thinking because it's a big wound and might scar because it's big. From the burns I saw online, the redness typically goes away but mine didn't and turn brown. I bought this scar ointment from UAE called MEBO. I hope it helps, thank you very much!^^
