Electric toothbrush! Flossing. Dental hygiene is important.

Goawayquickly · 14/05/2020 22:06

Order some gengigel it is fantastic.

HeadOfHomeschool · 14/05/2020 23:05

I do Electric toothbrush, floss, tongue scrape & salt rinse.

It's age related apparently. Just wondered if there's anything I can take to slow it down.

Thanks @Goawayquickly. Do you brush with that?

There is a gengigel mouthwash and I think a spray.

What has your dentist said?

workshy44 · 15/05/2020 10:49

Chew gum.
I smoke and hadn't been to a dentist in over 10 years- I brush my teeth but don't floss or use and electric toothbrush.
I thought he was going to murder me but not one filling and my gums are perfect. I mentioned I chewed sugar free gum and he said that was VERY good for teeth and gums

BubblesBuddy · 15/05/2020 11:48

Not a nice look though. Chewing gum all the time. My dentist doesn’t sell gum but they sell everything else. And give expert advice!

workshy44 · 15/05/2020 12:15

No need to be so sarky and maybe you should check your facts before you do. Chewing gum is v good for teeth and gums as long as it is sugar free
I'm also not chomping all day, maybe for an hour or so

Chewing gum will do fuck all for receeding gums.

It will help remove plaque and therefore prevent fillings but receeding gums arent caused by plaque. Smoking and not flossing are a recipe for gum disease and no chewing gum is going to save you

Receeding gums (which is not gum disease) are mostly age related. A traumatic brushing technique can worsen recession, unfortunately some people are more prone due to their anatomy.

I would either use an oral B electric toothbrush with a pressure sensor, or a soft headed toothbrush. You need to brush wirh gentle sweeping motions, make sure you arent scrubbing. Plaque is very soft so you need very little pressure

I wouldnt use a salt water mouthrinse after brushing as that will wash away the flouride from your toothpaste. There isnt any supplement or anything you can take.

OP my dentist suggests interdental brushes alternated with floss. The hygienist can tell you which sizes and shapes will work best depending on gaps (I use three). Grinding and clenching can also cause recession, so maybe ask about a mouth guard.

I have receding gums, my dentist always told me to brush diffentky etc... Nothing has helped. It's only recently that I've heard about a link between braces and receding gums. I had both removable and train track braces in my teens. I do not floss, but my teeth are quite gappy. I use an electric toothbrush and definitely do not use mouth wash after brushing, I do not rinse my teeth after brushing either. The fluoride from the tooth paste is what your teeth need, not water or mouth wash. If my teeth are very sensitive near the gums I spread tooth paste on the area over night. It helps.

Thanks @BusterGonad
