Pleazd help me, my hair is breaking and I look ridiculous!

Seriously, I look like Dwight Schrute and I cannot deal with it anymore!

My hair is quite long and I don't often use styling tools on it, wash it every other day usually and try and let it dry naturally. I might dry it with my Revlon hair dryer/volumiser brush and maybe straighten it once every few months.

I used to have little horn sideburns due to hair breakage (damage caused by too much heat as I would dry and straighten my hair every other day) but since switching to the Revlon brush and not using heat as much these have grown quite long. But the hair on my hairline is snapping, on either side of my forehead. It looks like I have the edges of a fringe but am missing the middle.

I do wear my hair up quite a lot and know this can cause breakage on the hair line but this has started to be more noticeable the past month or so, there is a lot of hair that is breaking. I don't usually like to wear my hair down as if I don't dry it with a hair styler it is frizzy and looks awful, hence why I usually like to wear it up.

Please can someone tell me why this is happening and what I can do?! It doesn't help that I definitely have a 5 finger forehead and the curtains do not compliment this!!

I have (hopefully!) managed to attach a picture.

Sorry for the title typo and the lack of paragraphs, my mumsnet app doesn't like paragraphs 😔

Do you wear glasses? My hair catches in the hinge of my glasses and breaks. I ended up getting a fringe!

oooompa · 13/05/2020 22:35

I do, yes, and I sometimes get the hair catching in the hinges and snapping. I didn't ever think it could be that!

I've worn glasses for about 3 years now, but got a slightly bigger frame about 6 months ago maybe. Do you think it could be that then? I feel aggrieved as I've tried so hard to use less heat on my hair and when I do, to make sure I use heat protection products and sprays, and have put up with it being a frizzy mess.

I think I need to embrace a fringe, but the last time I did that I went for the full fringe and ended up looking like a mushroom 😐

What do you dye it with?maybe your hair can't cope with it?

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 13/05/2020 22:41

You look like me circa 1999 and I thought I looked great Grin

My hair catches a lot on my glasses too. Very annoying. No solution as yet though, sorry!

oooompa · 13/05/2020 22:41

Horehound I use L'Oréal intense copper permanent due, maybe once every 3 months (I'm very lazy and it's a bit of a chore to dye!), I've used that for the past 7 years with the odd mix up to a different brand.

To be honest my hair is very similar to the colour I dye it, the dye just makes it more vibrant, so I could probably live without it if it's doing damage.

Oh poor you I have these too but because after having babies my hair all along my hairline falls out and then grows back in so I also have tiny devil horns! I can't wear my hair in a ponytail unless I have about 20 hair pins in :(

My only advice is wear your hair down more as it hides them!

Horehound · 13/05/2020 22:48

Maybe once lockdown is eased and hairdressers are open you could have a consultation?
They would maybe know better than we can tell on here

Horehound · 13/05/2020 22:49

Another thing...you don't subconsciously twirl it or anything do you?!

oooompa · 13/05/2020 22:56

I've actually just spent the last 20 minutes twirling the little horns to see if I could make them stand up 😳 but I don't think I do it subconsciously.

I went to the hairdressers not long before long down just to have a trim, I am planning on going back when I'm able to to see if I can get some layers put into it so it isn't as thick.

I'm very lazy when it comes to hair styling but I'd like something that looks a bit more "polished" after I dry it. When I dry it it still looks crap, just a little less kinky.

At least I can bask in the joy that I'm not the only one who has suffered from accidental curtains! I'm not the most fortunate looking woman, but the silly fringe is adding insult to injury!
