Is this frumpy and boring or could it look chic and stylish?

I’m terrible at this sort of stuff so would really appreciate any advice!

It’s quite mother of the bride

onwheels · 13/05/2020 13:21

lovely for 30+ but would need killer heels and quality clutch to elevate. For me it would be deeper tan accessories rather than creamy lighter tones. i like it and i'm 38. where do you plan wearing it?

BoogleMcGroogle · 13/05/2020 13:22

Just no. It looks like a bowl of pot pourri circa 1985.

graisse · 13/05/2020 13:23

I wouldn't say it was 'mother of the Bride'. It's classic rather than trendy, not necessarily a bad thing, it depends on your own personal style, shape and preference.

If you like it order it and try it.

graisse · 13/05/2020 13:24

Posted too soon. Also meant to say and if when you try it on you feel good about how you look in it, keep it. If it doesn't bring joy when you look at yourself, return it.

Yolo2020 · 13/05/2020 13:25

I’ve just turned 33. I think it’s quite safe and I’m wondering if it’s just a bit too boring. I ordered it and tried it on and it looks nice. It’s just is it a bit meh I guess.

I guess I would just wear it out and about and possibly a wedding too.

It’s ghastly. And I’m a big midi fan. Unless it’s 100% your colour and your arms are your best feature, I’d give it a miss.

SpringSpringTime · 13/05/2020 13:27

It's not classic! It is very seasonal, and tbh a bit dated already (the line across the bust plus the netting). I don't mind the length or the basic shape but this version of it is really fussy. Avoid, there's a reason it's in the sale!

onwheels · 13/05/2020 13:27

a bit more opinion ... its just that it's quite "sensible" an not very cute or cut for flaunting figure. i'd wear this to a family wedding with tan or deep green heels etc. but .... my family are very into modesty clothes and no back hanging out or so tight you can see your hip or pubic bone area

i'd wear with flat tan or copper sandals for a bbq.

i wouldn't wear it if trying to be trendy but it could still be flattering and striking styled the right way.

unoeufisunoeuf1 · 13/05/2020 13:30

Sorry but there's just something "off" about it to me; the colour, print and shape. It looks like an old-fashioned wedding-guest dress. Floral midi dresses still feel quite current, in my area anyway, but I think something like this feels more contemporary

Louisesp82 · 13/05/2020 13:30

I really like it..paired with higher heels

NameChange84 · 13/05/2020 13:31

I like it but I am into modest clothing.

I’d wear with a biker jacket and some chunkier heels to dress it down.

I realise I’m in the minority though!

onwheels · 13/05/2020 13:32

oh that anthroplogie one is beautiful. im on look out for midi as i have bad veins on my legs. might get that actually but £78, oucha

StuntCroissant · 13/05/2020 13:33

OP I've also just turned 33. I think it's awful, I'm sorry. The pattern is very dated and the grosgrain ribbon waistline and fabric of the skirt screams "wedding guest" so I think you would look overdressed if you wore it out and about, as is your intention.

I'm a huge midi dress fan, but for a more casual look it needs to be slightly looser fitting or with sleeves.

SinglePringle · 13/05/2020 13:34

It’s awful. I had a strong reaction to it.

Also, deeply unflattering if you’ve any kind of bust. It’ll make it look huge and matronly.

helpmum2003 · 13/05/2020 13:38

Sorry i don't like it. I'm 10 years plus older and wouldn't wear it. It's frumpy.

oohnicevase · 13/05/2020 13:42

What for? A wedding yes, everything else no but it is a bit boring for 33!

FlowerArranger · 13/05/2020 13:43

No, please no.

There is no justification for turning 1970s curtains into summer dresses.

PurpleDaisies · 13/05/2020 13:45

I’m not a fan at all.

Fidgety31 · 13/05/2020 13:46

It reminded me of caravan cushions

FlowerArranger · 13/05/2020 13:46

QuentinQuarantino · 13/05/2020 13:46

Horrendous.

It looks like a little girl's ugly party dress sized up for adult proportions.

There are lots of chic floral dresses out there.

Yolo2020 · 13/05/2020 13:49

Ok thank you! I think I definitely agree with most of you! Back it goes!

I’ve dressed boring and conservatively my whole life and I just want to break freeeeeeeeee!

Thank you to the PP who recommended the Anthropologie dress.

Are there any other recommendations? I’ve been losing weight in lockdown and have lost 2 stone since last year. I also have quite a big bust and I’m fed up not wearing clothes that show off my cleavage when it’s probably the best and only part of myself!

I’d really like to look feminine and chic and stylish, maybe a bit naughty.

Anyway, as you can see my radar is a bit out. I do have a lovely leather jacket I love but apart from that if you have any links to dresses/tops/skirts I’d be grateful!

I'm nearly 30 and there is no way I'd wear this, even to a wedding, sorry. Its definitely not a day dress, not very flattering and not in any way trendy or fashionable. Loads of nice floral midi dresses about atm, that antgropologie one a pp posted is really nice!
