Encouraging wavy hair (Curly Girl method?), advice please

My once straight hair has changed after the birth of my baby and I’d really like to encourage the waves! I’m thinking I could do a version of the Curly Girl method go help this? So I’m looking for some cheap products to start me off and help those waves! I think I need a low or no-poo, a conditioner and a styling product...do I need anything else? Would love some product recommendations - extra points if I can get them from the supermarket!

Thank you x

There’s a tonne of Facebook groups that are really helpful. I’d recommend starting with the very basics, just one curly girl approved light conditioner (waves get weighed down easily so avoid ingredients like shea butter) use the same product as a co-wash, then as conditioner, then a tiny bit as leave in. Once your hair is used to it then you can experiment with other products, gels etc. Personally I like the faith in nature seaweed and citrus conditioner, it leaves my scalp feeling very clean and isn’t too heavy.

starfish83 the same thing happened me after kids. It actually went back straight after my first but is still wavy after my second.

Some Facebook groups can be quite extreme. I was seeing posts where people were using 6/7 products in their hair and I got a bit overwhelmed.

2 brands that get really good reviews are Naughty Hair and OGX (both available in boots). I personally love the dream curls conditioner by OGX.

I also love bumble and bumble curl anti humidity gel-oil (got it as a sample thing in TK Max) but I don’t think it’s curly girl approved.

Some days are better than others with my hair but at least it’s not a frizzy mess anymore.

I've been doing curly girl for a year now and have tested a LOT of products. My hair is on the curler side of wavy and very thick and coarse. I stick to real basics - sulfate free shampoo and conditioner and styling product and that's it. I use umberto Gianni curl jelly mousse and the associated shampoo and conditioner. Stuff like shea butter and kantu I found much too heavy for my hair and left me with residue and more frizz. I also dont use leave in conditioner as again find it too heavy for my hair.

girlinajumpsuit I don’t use leave in conditioner either but sometimes what I do is condition my hair as normal but only half rinse it out. That worked particularly will with the OGX dream curl conditioner.

There's a good post here on Instagram linking to a Curly Girl starter kit of reasonably priced products - www.instagram.com/p/CAD5btwl6c2/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

Not so much product as a ‘kit’ recommendation. A diffuser accessory for your hairdryer. As wide and ‘fingery’ as you can find. On low heat and air, scrunch your hair gently upside down and into the diffuser. Upside down gives body, scrunching gives the waves/curls their best chance to dry into lovely random shapes. So much nicer than with a curling iron or rollers.

I'd recommend giving the curly girl method a go and ditch the poo, you really don't need it. Join the FB curly girl UK and also check out the 'is it cg' web app for checking products - you may find you already have some that are cg friendly

I have naturally curly hair, I use a diffuser, and frizz ease (can buy in some supermarkets) curly hair in certain weathers goes frizzy, also dry oil.

Superdrug cherry and almond conditioner is half price (£1.23) from memory and is CG approved.

I'm three weeks in and haven't used shampoo, just conditioner and gel.
