Do you tie your hair back for bed?

My hair is growing, it's the longest I have had since primary school. Am I supposed to tie it back for bed? I have to admit it pisses me off when I wake up with it all over my face. If I tie it up though the bobble falls out or leaves a crease. Stupid hair.Hmm

I don’t think it’s a ‘should’, just if it annoyed you then you would. Smile

Mine is long, I always leave it down. I'm not comfortable with it being up in any way

homemadecommunistrussia · 12/05/2020 14:55

I don't like it tied up. Not keen on down. Will probably cut it off what's the point?

I don't tie mine up at night. I can only sleep on my back so I just pull it through to the front of my shoulders on each side. You'd never know I'd slept on it most mornings.

homemadecommunistrussia · 12/05/2020 17:28

That made me laugh.Grin Do you cross your hands over your front as well?
I am always turning over on my side or my front, poor dh.

I tie mine up during the day and loose at night. Its mud back length, straight and thick and doesn't tangle even if I toss and turn.

MabelMoo23 · 12/05/2020 17:36

A loose bun on top of my head. Drives me absolutely crazy otherwise!!

Mnthrowaway20202 · 12/05/2020 17:56

My hair is highlighted so a bit dry/damaged. I feel like sleeping with it loose means that I wake up with unnecessary tangles, whereas if it just clip it up I wake up with no tangles. I prefer clips instead of bands because it stresses my damaged hair less.

Mnthrowaway20202 · 12/05/2020 17:58

Oh and also, I used to have a long bob which has grown out. Now that my hair is long again I feel like I’m lying on my hair in awkward positions and tugging on it if when it’s loose?

If I’m sleeping with my partner I prefer it out because I look nicer

AnneLovesGilbert · 12/05/2020 17:59

Mine’s bra strap length and I never tied it back but I’m cosleeping with the baby now so put it in a loose bun so she doesn’t get a face full.

Like a previous PP said, my DH tends to move around a lot in bed using his elbows and he is always leaning on my hair, which means I wake up squealing like a pig. Hmm

I used to tie it in a bun on top of my head to keep it out of the way, but I lost a lot of length after I damaged it with bleach, so now I'm a bit stuffed because his elbows still find it but it's not long enough to all stay in a bun anymore.

I tried pigtails the other night hut I'm a sidesleeper so I ended up with earache where the bobble was touching it.

Doesn't a sleep turban simply come off when you turn over?

empireants · 13/05/2020 20:05

I wish I could sleep with my bra strap length hair down but I just can't, it makes me feel hot and gets everywhere, including in my partner's face. I either tie it in a high ponytail or put it in a high bun to sleep. The latter gives me loose waves the next day so it's a win win.

StillMedusa · 13/05/2020 20:48

Loose french plait here..I'm growing it and I sleep face down so if it's not out of the way I end up dribbling in it in my sleep! It also means it's not tangled in the morning.

My DD (17) has long thick hair , past elbow length, she ties it in a plait or pigtails at night .
Mine is shoulder skimming , I don't have to tie it but I do sometimes wear a TurbieTwist on a deep conditioner overnight , it stays in place .

My hairdresser will have a fit if I ask her to cut it off, it's taken me years to grow it - fact is , it's your hair , but your hairdresser might persuade you not to be drastic. Probably had loads of clients coming in for a Pixie then wailing "I hate it . Put it back"

My DD and I had haircuts a couple of years ago (pre holiday) she went from mid back to bra strap. She thought about a layered bob but I convinced her .to go for the length she'd had and no layers. But if she wanted to in a month she could get more cut .
Not controlling but I know my daughter . She was straight back to "I want my hair long" again.
So good job she didn't have a layered bob!

homemadecommunistrussia · 13/05/2020 21:51

I've no problem telling the hairdresser what to do. She knows I am an awkward bugger and I've had years of getting hairdressers to cut more off.

My hairdresser said sleeping with hair up causes it to break.

totallyyesno · 14/05/2020 16:02

That's not true unless you have it tightly tied.
