Anyone had upper eyelid surgery ?

I have terrible baggy eyelids , which have worsened with age. I'm now having the eyelids that can split and bleed and it sometimes hurts like a papercut ( which everyone knows hurts like hell !)
If you have had surgery, what was it like, and how was the recovery ?
I also feel , due to the droopy eyelids that my eyes are a different shape to each other, did this cure it ?

I’ve had it done 2 years ago and it was the best thing ever. So glad I had it done and wish I had it done earlier. I was awake during the procedure which was a bit scary. It wasn’t too bad afterwards, it was a bit uncomfortable and itchy. I got my stitches out 5 days after the operation. I was a bit swollen and bruised for about 2 weeks after.

My eyes are different shapes the operation won’t fix that, I have one eye slightly bigger than the other. I see it but other people dont. There was quite a few people I didn’t tell about my operation and they have never cracked a light about my change in appearance.
I like th4 fact I can apply eyeshadow much differently now and can get a little bit of a wing for my eyeliner x

Make sure you get a top rated surgeon and meet with them to make sure you feel very confident and at ease with them. I paid for mine and went to harley st. paid more than I could have done elsewhere but the level of skill and extra care felt very much worth it.
different shapes are accounted for and he was able to make me much more symmetrical.
I looked bloody awful after surgery for 2 weeks, then really still not that great for another couple.. but after 4 they were great and get better all the time over the next 6 months. I'm now so pleased and wished I did it earlier!
It was actually a bit more painful than I thought but I did have laser treatment to tighten skin too - which burns all the top layer of skin off so this was the main itchyness and cause of a lot of bruising. if you can just ignore the 1 two weeks and appreciate it will get better..its fine.

I had it done 3 years ago- it was one of the BEST decisions I ever made. It made me look 10 years younger- and is a really easy simple operation. I opted for local anaesthetic and was awake throughout the procedure. It was absolutely fine. I went with a top rated surgeon with an excellent reputation and this operation has a very high satisfaction rate.

I did look horrific for a week or so afterwards but it looked worse than it felt- was just bruising etc. Go for it- it is transformative and so worth it

Thanks for your replies , I live in Cumbria so very North West. If anyone lives North - who did you go with ?

Ooh I’m in London if any of the PP wouldn’t mind sharing their doctor’s name please?
I am 37 and for the past 2-3y I have seen my eyelids fall more are mire every year, makes me look so old!

Vamoosh · 09/05/2020 09:17

What age would you recommend getting it done? I have very heavy and droopy eyelids and I’m in my mid 20s. I fully expect to get this procedure done in the future.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 09/05/2020 09:20

My surgeon was Mr Nduka. He's an amazing surgeon and a lovely man. He also reconstructs people's faces after accidents or severe nerve damage.

@vamoosh the skin isnt going to grow back so I'd get it done as soon as you can. Words cant describe what a difference it makes to your eyes - its wonderful to be able to wear eyeshadow now and eyeliner that you can actually see!

I had it done. Lower as well. However, as with other surgery it wears off over time but you will get a good few years from it, depending on your skin type and genes.

My surgeon was a Harley St. one, very well known and popular, no point recommending him though as he retired.

Do your research thoroughly. I looked battered for a few days, not enough to stop me going out though but I don't care about things like that. You might want to wait until the stitches are out though, if they are the bright blue ones.

I had upper lids done 8 years ago. Best decision ever. Cost £2000. Done under local anaesthetic. Would second all the advice given by other posters.
I took too weeks annual leave. I was bothered about people noticing and wore contact lenses at the time. I started to wear my glasses at work just before the surgery so when I went back to work after the op, people were distracted by the glasses and didn't notice the bruising and swelling that hadn't quite settled.
I think if I ever go for a facelift (which I am considering) I will have my hairdresser give me a 1 inch shocking pink fringe. It's all about distraction!
Do it.

I had it done about 10 months ago. Had it done under local anesthetic, which I have to say was pretty awful. Hearing and feeling your skin being cut isn't pleasant at all. Having the stitches out however was even worse. I cried and swore the whole way through! I was severely bruised for a good 3 weeks but.......they look incredible, so it was all worth it. I'm 48 and I wouldn't say I look younger as such but I do look fresher I think.

LakeTittyHaHa · 09/05/2020 09:50

Following because I have been considering this for a while now. My eyelids are horrendous!

Can I ask what was the average cost?

Barkingfuckingdogs · 09/05/2020 09:56

Mine was £2500 but I know that's much cheaper than the average price.

madcatladyforever · 09/05/2020 10:01

You can get this done on the NHS if its bad enough.
Places like the Queen Victora, East Grisnstead will do it on the NHS and there are other burns and plastics hospitals too.
You should be able to find the criteria for NHS.

It can cost anything from like 2k to 6k. If you have both upper and lower lids done it will cost more. I only had upper lids done and if i recall correctly it was around 2,500-3000 ish.

Baskininthegarden · 09/05/2020 10:10

julian de silva did mine on harley st and I felt very looked after.
