Very painful feet- shoe advice

mondaywine · 08/05/2020 22:26

I am hoping you guys will have good advice.
Just as lockdown started I was at the beginning of investigations into joint pain in my hands and wrists. This is all on the backburner just now.
However, the pain in my feet inparticular has gone through the roof (ironic as my job has bone on my feet all day but teaching remotely means I’m on my bum all day!)
Can anyone recommend good brands of shoes I can look at? I’m looking for all shoes but particularly trainers and sandals/ sliders. The pain in worst in the toes, outside edge of both feet and just before the arch. Thank you.

Not trendy but I love sketchers go walks. Lovely support and cushion the feet.

mondaywine · 08/05/2020 22:29

I’d love trendy but I have to be realistic. I just need something that will help. Will have a look @Hippofrog

I love Skechers. I work 14 hours on my feet a few days a week and find them amazing. I've a pair to get to work and a separate pair at work. Easily washed, comfy and I think they look good.
I've even got my husband wearing the running version now.

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 08/05/2020 22:34

I have bad feet (crooked sore toes, weird sore heel, plantar fasciitis) and I don’t get on with Sketchers as too wide and not enough support /loose fitting

I guess I have quite bony feet

For me fitflop trainers are good as they are soft and light and support my arches. Perfect for wearing at home

Also like Ascics gel trainers , the more expensive ones, as the footbed really supports the arch. Perfect for sport and outdoor walks if not muddy

Also ordinary walking boots

No pretty shoes for me Grin

You’ll have to try a few different brands, as people have such different feet

The ASICS cured my plantar fasciitis

Bagelsandbrie · 08/05/2020 22:35

ASICS gel trainers. You can get them for less than half the standard price on M and M direct (just google M and M direct and the website will come up). I paid £35 for mine and they’re the most comfortable trainers in the world and have also helped my horrible knee injury to heal as they’re like walking on cushions.

Thisisgreen · 08/05/2020 23:07

Fit Flops are great for support. I have flat feet and plantar fasciitis, and tight calves and these are the only shoes I can wear now. They have a sale on now too.

InAGarden · 08/05/2020 23:43

I wear joules sliders a lot, even as slippers at home, they have really helped with my plantar fasciitis, just so comfortable, supportive and pretty. Generally get a lot of discomfort in my feet joints and bones, and I recommend those and also Skechers, lace ups not slip ons for a good fit. I wear Skechers, do a lot of walking and on my feet a lot, they are so light and comfortable.

Thank you for this thread, I have found it very helpful too.

I can be a bit of a trainer snob and have always turned my nose up at sketchers. (Sorry, I know I’m being unreasonable) However I bought these in black/silver last spring and I don’t think I have ever worn anything so comfortable. They are more comfortable that my slippers and my DH keeps grumbling about me wearing them round the house. I wore them out and about all summer too.

I guess it’s the Plush Foam footbed that’s key, but it’s worth noting that they don’t rub across the top either unlike a well known sports brand I have.

mondaywine · 09/05/2020 17:56

I have ordered an ASICS pair from M and M and will look into the others. Thank you. .

Has to be sketchers go walk
Only thing is they make all other shoes feel uncomfortable

RandomMess · 09/05/2020 18:03

Sounds like you could be suffering from Vit D deficiency, arthritis or psoriatic arthritis. Did you get anywhere with investigations?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 09/05/2020 18:03

This is a good book about foot pain

Magpiecomplex · 09/05/2020 18:51

That pattern of foot pain sounds like what I had due to hypermobility - if you have that then you could try what I was told by a physiotherapist. Micropore tape, right across the width of your foot to effectively immobilise your little toes. And then find some shoes which fit well across the toes...

chunkyrun · 09/05/2020 18:52

Got to be fitflops. Like walking on a cloud

itsnotcakeitsbaby · 09/05/2020 18:53

Another vote for Fit Flops (they don't just do flip flops)!

mondaywine · 09/05/2020 21:31

No doctor’s appointments to be had just now and investigations cancelled just as lockdown began. I’ve been burying my head in the sand for a while as my mum had psoriatic arthritis and it does run dotted across the family. My daughter has a different autoimmune condition. I have issues with some of my finger joints too now. My hands often resemble my mum’s. Interesting about hyper mobility too as I do have some hypermobile joints too.

Will look into the book too.

I'm on my 4th pair of Fit Flop flip flops (11 years) and I bought a pair of their trainers last year. They are the most comfortable thing ever. I have something funny going on with my toes and it never happens in fit flop season!

RandomMess · 09/05/2020 21:34
Thanks

I would start taking Vit D now and start pushing for a referral as the sooner you get treatment the less damaged your joints will be.

If you score as having low Vit D they are likely to say that is the cause of the pain and Male you wait...
