DIY eyelash tint

Can anyone recommend a home eyelash tint please? It’s years since I bought one in Boots and to be honest it wasn’t that good. My bottom lashes are fair and the top ones tend to be lighter at the ends so don’t show up that well. I rarely wear makeup but would like to have a bit more definition so thought to t might be the way forward. Thanks Smile

I use Refectocil in natural brown. I have lashes that sound similar to yours. You need to buy the developer liquid with it. It's easy to use and lasts ages. I usually pick mine up from eBay. I use it on my brows too.

I use the brand Strictly Professional (brown for eyebrows, blue/black for lashes) along with the developer. Got them off eBay.

I'm looking for a good home tint as well but feel a bit apprehensive about buying from ebay (probably because it is going near my eyes lol). Are there any good kits that you can buy in shops?

lotusbell · 08/05/2020 20:42

Sounds exactly like mine, OP! Used Eylure ages ago and just bought the tint for my eyebrows but have yet to get the eyelash one. Am thinking I might get it done professionally once lockdown is over, but probably a lot cheaper with the diy kit.

I agree with PP - refectocil
I’m very fair and use blueblack on my eyelashes and light brown on my eyebrows

Lavenderpurple · 08/05/2020 20:54

I’m a beauty therapist. Refectocil, Strictly professional, Apraise or Combinal are all professional brands. Buy the corresponding developer.
I wouldn’t waste your time with brown for eyelashes. Blue-Black is the best for definition and brown is usually best for eyebrows.

What about this ultra cheap one? 🤔

Some of the professional ones should only set you back about £4. Plus your developer which should be about £2-£4.
I’d be hesitant to buy just anything as it’s to do with eyes.

Thanks everyone Smile
I’ll have a look at these, wish my lashes were like my eyebrows, definitely no need to tint those at the moment, although I have found a couple of grey ones recently Grin

I am a redhead and have fair lashes. I bought the Refectocil brand tint in blue black and the developer liquid. I bought it before Christmas as I thought I'd give it a go myself, having paid for eyelash tints for the last 30 years. Hadn't actually got round to it before Lockdown. Little did I know that I'd be having to do them myself now anyway. To be honest I wish I'd done this years and years ago. It was so much easier than I imagined. I watched loads of YouTube videos first to
make sure I knew exactly what to do. I also made sure I had all my equipment ready before I started including the timer on my phone. It obviously takes longer than in the salon as you can only do 1 at a time. I was really chuffed with the results and definitely recommend the brand Refectocil. Good luck

After much research I bought Eylure - (black for lashes and dark brown for brows), everything comes in the box so decided it would be a good place to start.

I also watched a few YouTube vids - think it was 'wife of Riley' who I found the most helpful. Anyway, I'm very happy with the results -eyebrows especially. My eyelashes needed a second application and did a better job second time around.

Don't think I'll be paying to have lashes and brows done anymore!

Lndnmummy · 09/05/2020 10:44

Me too! I bought the eyeLure ones and it worked a treat. I watched a video by Caroline Barnes on how to do it. Easy peasy

SueblueNZ · 10/05/2020 02:06

I have naturally blonde lashes and have been using the 1000 hours lash/brow dye which is the only one that retails here. I use blue/black which is best for me as I use black mascara.
The worst part is that the developer comes in a bottle with a wee hole opening. It is impossible to drop out exactly 10 drops so I am never quite sure if the dye/developer is in the right proportions. Contrary, to instructions, I have been known to leave the dye on my eyes for ages ... half an hour sometimes. No adverse reactions or problems. I do both eyes at a time.
It works a treat. While I dye uppers and lowers, I focus on my lower lashes as I wear mascara on the uppers anyway to give some volume.
I wear strong glasses so need to do this vanity operation with glasses off (of course) in front of a strong magnifying mirror.
I never do my own brows; in fact, having had professional dye jobs that are far too dark, I stick with using Maybelline brow satin in dark blonde to colour my brows.
I love the savings from tinting my own lashes. Also, I always hated how rough some beauty therapists have been wiping/washing dye off afterwards.

I just tried Eyelure today for the first time. Very easy, did both eyes to gether, having watched a few videos first. It's as easy as putting on mascara. You do it in 2 steps, no more than 10 min all told. With hindsight, I would leave each step on for the maximum time.

ProudMarys · 10/05/2020 19:46

@lotusbell
I've tried that one it worked ok for me. I've got very sensitive skin to. A little puffy in the morning but it went after a few hours

lotusbell · 10/05/2020 20:34

Thanks @ProudMarys, for that price i may give it a try - patch test first!
