If you’re militant you will see results.

I had laser hair removal and after 1 year the hairs were starting to show, we’re now in lockdown and I have been using it since and they have now gone. I have done every 2 weeks for 6 weeks. I will do another 2 bi weekly sessions then move on to every 4 weeks until they have gone.

Please could somebody walk me through the shaving - treatment - re-growth cycle when using the Lumea?

I have really thick dark hair on my lower legs (almost beard-like) and have used an epilator for years. I hate shaving as it grows back so quickly and gives me horrible itchy dark stubble for ages afterwards.

Please can someone let me know how this works with the Lumea?

I know you have to shave before you use it. Does that mean you have to put up with stubble afterwards? If I was shaving and using it every two weeks it would mean having constant uncomfortable and unsightly stubble until it, hopefully, stops growing.

I keep reading how people absolutely love it but I can't get my head around this part.

I have seen this question asked a few times on Lumea threads and it's never really been answered so I'd really appreciate it Smile

Doingitaloneandproud · 18/05/2020 07:54

I've got one and love it, I do sometimes get lazy and forget to do it, but on my legs it's made a massive difference and under arms, there's still hair under arms but it's more sparse, same as my bikini line. My chin is stubborn though and irritates me the most as the hairs won't bugger off 😂

To answer a qs you do have to shave as the hair grows in different cycles, if you epilate it removes it from the root which is the part the machine needs, so it will take much longer. It is a pain but honestly it's so helped my legs, I used to get the most awful ingrown hairs from shaving all over my legs and they've disappeared now Grin

Can anyone tell me if the Lumea can be used on melasma? Currently pregnant and have developed melasma in one armpit. I already have the Lumea and used it mainly on my pits pre-pregnancy. I've not been using in pregnancy and won't when breastfeeding but I've heard that IPL can be used to treat melasma. But also the opposite. Would the Lumea make the melasma better or worse? Assuming the melasma doesn't disappear post pregnancy.

blibblibs · 18/05/2020 08:08

Polestar50 you don't ever have stubble because you would just shave whenever you want between zapping. You just find after a few goes that you don't need to do it so often.

Polestar50 · 18/05/2020 08:27

Thanks blibblibs

I am being a twit! Of course that's how you do it!

It's just been so long since I've shaved and I avoid it like the plague.

I think it would mean if I want to stay hair free whilst treating with the Lumea then I would have to shave every day, and still put up with a lot of stubble, which Is really unappealing after years of simply epilating every couple of weeks!

But it sounds like it will be worth it. Maybe a project for next winter Smile

Smurf123 · 18/05/2020 08:46

Can anyone give me an idea of which lumea to get??? Looking on their website they take from £300-£475

GreenTulips · 18/05/2020 09:16

Polestar50

The literature states that if you wax and I’d assume epilating is similar then you zap the day after

Mixingitall · 18/05/2020 09:29

You cannot remove the root, the laser needs to get to it, so no, you cannot epilate or wax, the hair shaft needs to be under the skin.

GreenTulips · 18/05/2020 09:35

From Philips

GreenTulips · 18/05/2020 09:36

You can wax or epilate

I’ve only just read the instructions!

onedaysoonish · 18/05/2020 10:14

Smurf at the moment it's cheaper on the John Lewis website than Philips own website so do check out JL - maybe even boots too. I just bought the prestige (arriving today!!) it was £325 on JL and £398 on Philips.

Lottapianos · 18/05/2020 11:17

You can wax, but I think it takes much longer to see results

Mixingitall · 18/05/2020 11:28

@GreenTulips

Oh, I did not know that, sorry to be putting wrong info out there and thanks for clarifying.

When I had laser with Soprano Ice in a salon, that’s what I was told and have continued to shave only.

pepperpod28 · 18/05/2020 11:38

I got it for £325 on boots the other day, figured I might as well get a stack of points if I was going to spend that sort of money!

Polestar50 · 18/05/2020 12:27

Thanks everyone. That's really useful

GreenTulips · 18/05/2020 18:04

Last week Costco had 50/60 pounds off

inmyshedsmoking2000 · 30/05/2020 15:32

I've just bought the bri954 prestige one.

Quick question- I am normally quite pale with dark hair but with the weather at the moment I have quite a tan! Will this make it less effective as when I'm paler in the winter?

Thanks

Bluesparkled · 05/06/2020 18:19

If you use it on your face do you get that brown skin effect that then lasts? I knew a girl years ago who I think did ipl in a salon and had a a kind of skin damage tache instead after:(

inmyshedsmoking2000 · 05/06/2020 18:30

If you use too high a setting you can get skin discoloration, sometimes lighter sometimes darker.

sunshinesky · 05/06/2020 20:03

I’ve had mine three years, it has made the hair much finer but I’m far from hair free. I find the battery doesn’t last long enough, from new I could do a whole leg but now i don’t even get that out of a single charge. It’s very time-consuming so if you can afford it I’d go to a salon (I can’t! But heard great things from people who have had it done).

beautifulmonument · 06/06/2020 00:17

DH bought me one for my birthday last year. It’s so time consuming and fiddly to do I can’t really be bothered with it. I’ve got so many more interesting things to do with my time.

Amyheadache · 06/06/2020 01:57

It’s amazing!
My armpits and bikini line are hair free! My legs are a bit tanned and taking longer

Esspee · 06/06/2020 08:15

I have worked for Phillips on promoting Lumea and from conversations with owners it simply seems to work well for some people but not for others.
I was given one to demonstrate with and used it on myself at home for a month, almost every day, without effect. I was born blonde but darkened in my 20s. I had to explain to customers that pale skin/darker hair was necessary for it to work but my underarm hair is dark and it made no difference to me yet I spoke with a lady with typical Pakistani complexion who said it had worked wonders for her and bought another one for her daughter.
I suggested to potential customers that they might want to share it with say a sister or close friend to cut the cost if that was a barrier, especially if you don’t know if it is going to work for you.
