Is that going to be the same as an adult size 5 or are they made to be a smaller fit?
Spotted these that I like but I’m not sure if the junior 5 is just the same as an adult 5?

Thank you!

Ystyle, an Irish blogger frequently posts about buying Nike’s in the junior section, she usually advises buying a half size bigger. She often has discount codes too for Nike if you have a look for her on Facebook or Insta

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 05/05/2020 13:22

I buy kids size 5 all the time, never had a problem, they actually feel nicer in my feet

MummytoCSJH · 05/05/2020 13:25

The same. I'm a 5 and fit a kids, it's great! I get the expensive brands cheaper for getting junior too Grin

Boomclaps · 05/05/2020 13:33

Yep always! I don’t think I’ve ever bought an adult trainer 🤪

Brevityisthesoulofwit · 05/05/2020 13:36

They are narrower than adults size 5 but for trainers they are fine. I often buy kids trainers and they fit fine.

BillywigSting · 05/05/2020 13:39

I'm a 3 and normally buy kids size 4 trainers (wide feet).

Agree with pp they are much more comfortable than adults sizes, typically a bit softer. Ditto for shoes and boots. My work shoes are meant to be school shoes, made of very soft leather and took no breaking in at all.

Madcats · 05/05/2020 13:54

I think kids shoes are a little bit narrower. DD(12) is now 3 European sizes bigger than me, so I have had a few cast-off trainers. I tend to go up a size for converse etc.

If you are after flat sandals or short boots Boden and Zara are often worth a look.

bookish83 · 05/05/2020 13:58

I am a 5 and have often bought kids 5 or 5.5 trainers.

Only difference I've ever noticed are the prices!

typicallyatypical · 05/05/2020 13:59

I'm a size 5 and have looked into this. Sometimes the technical properties differ and there may be small style changes. Children's shoes can be a simpler version of the adults e.g. an Adidas or Nike adult trainer upper which has a mixture of suede, leather, textile bits (I'm not an expert of the language) might not have all the materials on the childs version. Stitching might be replaced with glue. At the end of the day, they need to make them cheaper somehow.

But if it's just a look you're after and they are for general everyday use rather than sport, I'd go for it.

typicallyatypical · 05/05/2020 14:00

I also meant to say, it's not always the case there are differences, sometimes they appear identical, at least on the surface. Need to look into the style you want.

zombielady · 05/05/2020 14:03

I'm a size 4 and always buy kid's converse. £20 cheaper, bargain!

onemouseplace · 05/05/2020 16:47

I buy 5.5 from the kids department trainers all the time!

I remember reading somewhere that it's not advisable for trainers you are doing proper exercise in as kids trainers aren't designed to support an adult's weight in the same way.

DaisylovesDonald · 05/05/2020 16:52

No these aren’t trainers for exercise - I have my trusty new balance for that!
@onemouseplace are you an adult size 5.5 or are you sizing up?

OP posts:
onemouseplace · 05/05/2020 17:08

I'm an adult 5.5 - I tend to buy the wider fitting trainers anyway though.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 05/05/2020 21:07

I’m a size 4, always buy kids’ trainers. I have wide feet and no issues.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 05/05/2020 21:12

I do the same - I've had some very nice Nikes from the kids range that have been the same as an adult pair (just be careful which sort you choose and what for if that bothers you). Converse, gym trainers and some cool Vans with fun patterns on.

CoronaIsComing · 05/05/2020 21:32

I’ve only ever had children’s trainers 😂 I’m a size 4 with narrow feet anyway. They’re cheaper because children’s clothes and shoes don’t have tax on them not because they’re lower quality.

TheFairyCaravan · 05/05/2020 21:36

I'm a size 5 and always buy children's trainers in a size 5. I've never had a problem nor have I needed to size up

HeronLanyon · 05/05/2020 21:39

This has been a revelation. Just been on jdslorts site looking at childrens. It funny - quite a few you can tell are not the same as adult BUT there’s some good stuff available for a lot less than adult prices. I’m a 5. May just try them out.

Perhaps not the pink glittery pony ones though, eh. Nor the Tom and Jerry.

Thanks op. Made me look.

BilboBercow · 05/05/2020 21:45

I always do this. Never had any issues with size

DaisylovesDonald · 05/05/2020 21:57

I hope no one on this thread bought a pair of those trainers because I’ve just gone back to buy them and they’re sold out Grin

DP once bought me a pair of uggs forms children boutique. I had to return them and buy from sole trader because for some insane reason, the childrens size 4’s were BIGGER than than the adults. Baffled

HeronLanyon · 05/05/2020 22:06

Not me. I saw them and they had sold out of the black. I did hope you’d already got ‘yours’! Oh dear.

Muddlingalongalone · 05/05/2020 22:10

Yep I buy junior trainers all the time

DaisylovesDonald · 05/05/2020 23:58

Don’t worry @HeronLanyon, I have found them somewhere else x
