Looking at the ordinary And would really like to try some products but i find it mind blowing and have no idea what I need or what order. Can anyone help

I’m 40 and I think my skin is dehydrated but unsure if actual skin type. It used to be very dry and flaky but that doesn’t seem the case anymore. My main issue is my face just always looks shit my skin just always look uneven blotchy etc and my make up just seems to disappear within a hour. I look awful in pictures all my friends make up look smooth, even, flawless and I just look like a shiny blotchy mess.

I’m thinking to start first with skin care then sort my make up issue after

My current skin care routine is
Body shop camomile oil cleanser
Superdrug naturally radiant GLycolic pads
Euerin urea repair replenishing cream (sometimes Nivea blue pot) both are very greasy

Attached are some pictures 1st four taken today after I had washed my face and put cream on and lady 4 after I put on some B.B. cream that just looks shit

I’m aware I’m getting older and I’m going to age but just want to look at least we’ll turned out and presentable

Your face does look a bit red after washing. Could it be the products you are using are too harsh, the water was too hot or your scrubbed your skin too much.

I found the Deciem chat room really helpful. I emailed them a few pics of my skin and they sent back a suggested routine, which I have tweaked. For example, they recommended the ordinary niacinamide but I found it left me red, so they suggest I try the hyalamide pore control which is less harsh.

Nadine Baggot and Caroline Hirons both have Facebook groups which have an amazing amount of people giving recommendations. You should have a look at them xx

My fave always has redness over my eyes/forehead is reader due to birthmark whole family have it.

I've looked at the Caroline herion website but just can't figure out what I need or even what skin type I actually have... just really don't know where to start

Start with the ordinary Squalane cleanser and the natural moisturising factors cream. If you get on with those, email Deciem and they will recommend further products.

EmpressJewel I ordered both of those last in a set that came with a retinol and a buffet. Figured I would just start start with the two you mentioned then add the others in if I got on ok

Yes to the above, if you email Deciem they will give you a starter list to work with. They might want to know if you're looking for anti-aging, general brightening, moisturizing.... they will ease you in gently before you find yourself mix up a witches brew every night with several little bottles of serums!

I like the Superdrug ranges. Personally I wouldn't use any 'acidy' product daily over a long period of time though. Do you use the pads daily, perhaps that causes a bit of redness?

Also, are you using an SPF? I can't remember if Deciem do one, but since you already shop there, Superdrug's Simple range (white packaging with blue/green lid) got rated well by Dr Dray the dermatologist.

I've recently started using their lactic acid at night, on its own with nothing on top. It's gentler than glycolic (I'd been using pixi glow before that), but its had much more impact on my skin. I'm quite pale, but my skin had started to lose clarity and look a bit 'muddy'. Now it looks much clearer and even toned - more like my old skin tone. Might be worth a try.

Also I use the AHA/BHA peel once a week (the dark red one) as a similar but stronger treatment. You do need to use factor 50 every day though.
