Tips for Looking Good During a Virtual Job Interview?

DamnYankee · 30/04/2020 21:29

I'm so excited! I have a virtual interview for a great job next week.
While I'm not unattractive, I'm not loving the way I'm looking on Zoom and Face Time.Confused
Any tips? I've heard it helps to wear a lot more makeup, but has anyone else have any techniques that have worked for them?
Thanks in advance!

Lighting is more important than make up.

You want to be lit from in front of you but behind your camera - so if you are using laptop, try putting a lamp behind it - preferably a lamp with a softish light/glow.

You don't want to have your back to window as the interviewer will find it much harder to see your face if there is a lot of light behind you.

A plainish solid background where possible and sorting your lighting out is going to make more difference than make up in this situation

There are various videos online now about lighting for video conferences and they are worth a watch

Use the touch up setting on Zoom - it automatically adjust colours and makes your skin look nicer!

Test the audio - you may be be better using a headset with microphone and headphones for clarity depending on how good your laptop microphone is and it could help prevent any echoing audio. Call a friend on zoom and try it out.

Nadine Baggott did a film on her YouTube channel recently about how to look good on Zoom, some good make up and set up tips.

I agree with Mojo. I had an interview on Teams last week and got the job!
Lighting is all important. Dress for an interview and, most important of all, look at your camera NOT at the screen. Practise this.
Do not be too close up - I set everything up so that they could see me to at least boob level as I felt it made me look more professional. THe moon head look beloved of some if not a winner!

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks, everyone!
I'll definitely take the advice about lighting, check all these resources out, and have reached out to a friend who says she will help me practice.
