Foundation aging me

poorbuthappy · 29/04/2020 18:45

If nothing else this bloody lockdown has shown me that foundation ages me.
What can I use as some sort of alternative ? CC / BB cream?
I'm 45 pale frecklely skin with lots of different tones and some sun damage (not massive just a smidge). Some set areas around nose but mostly normal.
Will consider any cost for the right product!

Set means dry. Hmm

I’m 41 and really like IT cosmetics cc cream. It’s lovely and glowy on me but lots of people don’t like it.

Mischance · 29/04/2020 18:54

For decades I have just bunged on a bit of any Garnier cream that is on offer in Tesco - foundation is grim stuff - gets itself into the tiniest of wrinkles and makes them more obvious.

No-one believes my age when I tell them, so I must have done something right! Smile

Thatone5 · 29/04/2020 23:51

Moisturiser before the foundation will help as it will avoid the skin being dry which causes makeup to set into fine lines, making them seem more obvious. Additionally, don't use too much setting powder etc as that can make wrinkles more prominent too. Try to go for "dewy" marketed products rather than "matte".

Illamasqua is lovely and glowy you can buy a sample from their website for only 80p as well.

Thighmageddon · 30/04/2020 08:15

When I hear someone saying this the first thing that comes to mind is...How is your skincare routine, is your skin dehydrated and have you been properly matched at a beauty counter?

Foundation if used correctly and alongside a good skincare routine shouldn't be ageing, the foundation shouldn't be visible on the skin.

TheCanterburyWhales · 30/04/2020 08:27

What foundation is it? If it's oil free or something full coverage like Doublewear then it's going to sit on dry skin.
Also agree to look at your skincare.

worldsworststepfordwife · 30/04/2020 08:32

Wear it differently so you’re not wasting it assuming you’ve bought the right colour just use it where you need it ie do you really need to cover your forehead and cheeks with it ? Or water it down with moisturiser

Rhubarbisevil · 30/04/2020 08:36

Pare back and try a tinted moisturiser.

Do you use a serum and a primer? I only need to dab a little foundation around my T zone which I can touch up during the day.

worldsworststepfordwife · 30/04/2020 08:40

Millions on here to help you choose just think about what you need as it’s v personal. one of my things is a thin texture, if I put some on my hand I want it to run, if it’s thick it feels like a mask on my skin, so it cosmetics cc went in the bin for me

I still make mistakes though as I can have a bit of a shiny nose and chin I thought I needed to stop using my glory CT light wonder winter or Bm complexion rescue summer and bought some ga luminous silk instead I’ll use it up but I miss my originals as this is a bit too matte

Cottonanimals · 30/04/2020 08:47

Foundation looks awful on dry skin. Use a gentle exfoliant like superdrug's natural radiance hot cloth cleanser which isn't scratchy but does get rid of that greyish dull layer of dead skin. Then use a moisturiser that absorbs easily like Garnier or Nivea Q10. Then a primer. Or, I prefer a second moisturiser - I use q10 pore minimising moisturiser (bit hard to find) on top of q10 active day.

Then pat a liquid foundation on with fingertips. I like Rimmel lasting finish because it's really silky, a bit dewy but not too much, and it lasts. Don't rub it in or swipe on with a sponge, just pat it, in a stippling motion and very slightly smooth over any patchy bits.

That has transformed my foundation from looking like it fills my wrinkles with orange cement to making me look 5 years younger, which is the plan.

BumboBaggins · 30/04/2020 09:47

Nars tinted moisturiser. It’s like a very very very light foundation but just makes you look healthy as opposed to masking anything. Glowy but not shiny. Doesn’t give that matte pancakey look that foundation can cause.

poorbuthappy · 30/04/2020 15:51

Thanks all.
I don't have a set routine but I am always moisturise, use a scrub regularly. I use serums etc.
I have also used fingers brushes (flat and square head type) and sponge/beauty blender to apply.

It never looks right.
The matt foundation went out the window quite a few months ago! But now I'm struggling. And as for matching well.....nothing matches. Ever.
I've done all the major counters. Match something on the jaw line doesn't match on cheek and so on...
I've even gone totally off piste and a slightly different colour just to get some coverage and because it simply won't sit on my skin properly I've given up.
First world problems I know.
Is it possible that my skin just doesn't suit foundation?

I have very uneven skin tone and find a fairly heavy coverage mid-colour (so not as dark as your darkest patches, not as light as your lightest patches) works best for me.

Peonyonpoint · 01/05/2020 07:08

You could just use generous bits of concealer? I have three or four on the go at any time!

Laura Mercier secret camouflage
Tarte shape tape - excessive googling suggested I get a peachy tone (have yellow undertones) to counteract shadows, has been really amazing
Maybelline’s light brush thing (better than touche éclat)
Ester Lauder dw concealer (holy grail, if I just had one I would use this).

I’ve also been using a bit of whatever the maybelline spf50 is - dream urban cover just looked it up. With a beauty blender.

Peonyonpoint · 01/05/2020 07:10

Also, watch some YouTube videos! The amount you see them blend and go over foundation has been a real eye opener (although I maintain that no one could be going out with the amount of makeup they put on for the cameras for a ‘natural daytime look).

ChateauMyself · 01/05/2020 07:26

Have you tried a non liquid foundation?

BareMinerals (& Bisque concealer).

poorbuthappy · 01/05/2020 20:03

Has anyone tried the skin tint from glossier?
