Bra for tween

My DD is developing fast and her breasts are aching pretty much all the time. Will a decent be make a difference to the ache?
She is wearing racer back crop tops at the moment. She is quite small around the back so they need to be a small size/age group to feel firm but I’m concerned that isn’t giving enough depth.
I’ve ordered some Boden crop tops.
Should she wear a bra? I’ve got a BHS 30B stashed and she says it’s too tight around the back and too tight across the breast. However I’ve measured her as 26 1/2 inches under bust and 29 inches over. Does that make her a 28C?
I’m not keen on M&S as even if you ignore their sizing issues and work that out for yourself I find the material they use scratchy. Which is why I pre-planned and bought a few different starter sizes from BHS all those years ago.
Can she carry on wearing crop tops or would that be somehow bad for her? If she “needs” a bra what size should I go for and where should I start?
Thank you!

M&S do have a younger girls ‘first bra’ range. I had my daughter measured (28AA) but found she fitted a 32A. Luckily we were in the shop at the time and not buying online.

I would probably see how she gets on with a proper bra instead of a crop too.

I’ve been trawling the websites of JL, m&s, Next and Asda to look at first bras. I know she’s going to have to try on so many to get one that fits. So many sizes are out of stock. I’ll have to spend a fortune ordering in various size bras only to have to
queue in post office to send most of them back.
I wish I had bought her a Molke bra before social distancing. Ah well! I’ll wait for the Boden crop told to arrive and if they’re not right I’ll have to try proper bras on-line.

New look do a few different styles of bras for teens. The non wired versions are done by age range even though they are shaped like t shirt bras and have adjustable straps like a proper bra. Maybe they will be more suitable than crop tops or trying to figure out a specific bra size.

I've just bought some from
George at Asda, no wire. I went for age 13-14 and she's only 11. They seem to fit well and should put her on until I can get her properly sized.

LoisSangerAteMyHamster · 30/04/2020 14:56

Oh, @elizabethrose that is fantastic to know, thank you. I think I might do the same. I couldn’t work out what size to but so it’s useful to know what you’ve done. She’s tall so George clothes are a bit small for her unless I get age 14 but I wondered if that would be too baggy.
If I can get a slot I’ll buy her some.

Thanks Thanks, I hadn’t even thought of New Look. I’ll look there too. Cheers. So long....

Victoria Secret are good for small backed girls. Would try them first.

DirtyTicket · 30/04/2020 15:14

Matalan have some lovely dost cotton ones. DD prefers their bras above all others.

SarahTancredi · 30/04/2020 15:16

Victoria secret unfortunately charge 8 pound for delivery and it's not even returnable in store should they suddenly open. I think u do get the delivery fee back if u return but last time I ordered from them it took weeks . And the bras are expensive. Save it til you can go in store and be fitted .

Stick with supermarket cheepies as you can click and collect and return free in store.

DirtyTicket · 30/04/2020 15:17

Forgot to mention, Matalan bras tend to be the moulded type. DD prefers them for a smoother look under her clothes but I know they're not everybody's cup of tea at this age.

LoisSangerAteMyHamster · 30/04/2020 15:40

Fab all. I can’t do click and collect as I don’t live near to any large supermarket. George Asda is fine though as they deliver by post. I don’t really want to return any as I don’t want to queue in our local
Post office for hours.
I’d be able to measure and fit her myself I think if I could get to a store so I think you’re right I’ll get cheap ones and wait for better ones

my dd liked the asda plain ones, but shes actually happier in a sports bra in a small or XS

LoisSangerAteMyHamster · 30/04/2020 21:53

Molke are back selling again from tomorrow so I’m going to try them.
DD does have one sports bra but she finds it too constricting. Maybe it’s just too small now.
