Cleansing balm/oil for super sensitive skin

Looking for a cleansing balm/oil for super sensitive skin. I’m currently using a Tatcha. I really like it but I have started getting spots. I had a tester and thought I was fine but I am reacting.

I can’t use anything with citric acid, hylauronic acid, silicones, any AHA’s, Vit C, Shea butter or highly fragranced.

I have tried Clinique cleansing balm but I didn’t like it.
The Body Shop Camomile I reacted to it.
I tried Bare Minerals cleansing oil but found it too runny.
Dermalogica Pre cleanse gave me spots.

I was looking at Estée Lauder cleansing Balm if anyone has any reviews on that.

I am in Australia so would have to be something I can get online, big dept stores or we have Mecca or can order from Sephora.

I am a beauty therapist so I am quite knowledgeable on ingredients. I use ASAP Gentle cleansing gel & Thalgo Collagen moisturiser.

I have ordered Aspect facial wash & Aspect soothing gel to try. I might try their miceller water but I really like a balm or oil to first cleanse.

I have super sensitive skin and for me Bobby Brown cleansing oil is worth every penny. It cleanses beautifully, emulsifies to make it easy to remove, does not give me spots and lasts for ever (big bottle has lasted over 18 months).
They do testers that I buy as travel bottles!

I use the Elemis pro-collagen cleansing balm, my skin is sensitive and I break out with lots of things but not this.

Fanthorpe · 29/04/2020 17:28

Ah, it has Shea in it, sorry.

MrsAmaro · 29/04/2020 17:30

Drunk Elephant Slaai cleansing balm is lovely. Not cheap at 29 GBP but lasts forever. Not sure about your contraindicated ingredients though, no shea butter but they publish their full ingredient list so easy to check.

Standinguptononsense · 29/04/2020 17:38

The body shop camomile one is lovely. I also use the elemis one the normal and rose. Both lovely.

JennyWren · 29/04/2020 19:06

I had a sample of the Bobbi Brown soothing cleansing oil and loved it - it is really nice to use. Unfortunately, though, I baulked at the price for an everyday thing, so I went back to the Body Shop camomile butter.

Have you looked at Jordan Samuels Skin? His Aftershow sensitive might tick your boxes. Available on Cult Beauty.

Have you tried just using oils. Such as almond oil, grape seed oil, avocado etc . Massage on face the use a hot cloth to wipe it.

I too have super sensitive skin, and encouraged by a thread many years ago on here tried a balm cleanser - a Boots one I think. It wrecked my skin and took about 2 years of trial and error to calm it down. I think they are just too thick and blocking, if you know what I mean, for sensitive skin. I react to everything on your list plus SPF, essential oils, squalene and more. I now use a cheap as chips Boots Simply Sensitive cleaner which does the job, but doesn't give me joy.

DHC cleansing oil is great for my skin, and you should be able to get it as the company is Japanese I think.

Tabithha · 30/04/2020 11:43

I just use regular oils. Cheaper and great for sensitive skin. Hemp , apricot kernel or rosehip oil are good ones as they have fatty acids that are good for the skin. Massage oil into your face and use a wet washcloth to wipe off. Then cleanse as normal

EyeShipMiceElf · 30/04/2020 12:39

The Drunk Elephant one has really good reviews but it made my face sore.
I only really use Pai cleanser and I also have a Neom calming one which is nice but I wouldn’t give up Pai for it.
I just bought it as it was on offer and I thought I’d give it a try. It is good at removing make up though and hasn’t made my skin sore so that’s always a bonus for me.

Badger Balm, though not sure if you can get it in Australia

DukeOfEarlGrey · 02/05/2020 06:30

Oskia Perfect Cleanser is a lovely light balm-to-milk. I’m not sure if the ingredients but worth a look. They also do the Renaissance Cleanser which is nice.

LaLaLanded · 02/05/2020 06:59

Oskia are great generally @dukeofearlgrey

Malin + Goetz cleansing oil is really good. Note it does have some essential oils but in very small amounts, and no citric acid or Shea butter.

Dermalogica precleanse - I was going to recommend this but you said it gave you spots!

I know you’re a beauty therapist but have you considered going to a derm for a consultation? Might be worth a quick check-in.

UnderLockdown · 02/05/2020 07:40

Dermatologica if you have very sensitive skin

princessbear80 · 02/05/2020 09:37

Sensitive skin here and I use almond oil. It doesn’t irritate my skin at all, and removes make up/spf. I buy a large bottle on amazon and decant it into a smaller bottle. £8.99 for 1L

Diamond25 · 02/05/2020 15:43

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I will look up the ingredients.

I might just try grape seed oil. I tried almond oil but found it heavy. I’ll see if the Bobby Brown is sold in Mecca.

Dermalogica has citric acid or silicones in it.
I tried Drunk Elephant. I liked it but reacted to it.

I do take a medication that has a side effect causing skin sensitivity to the sun so maybe that’s why I have so many sensitivities to ingredients.

Sanoflore Aciana Botanica is a lovely balm to oil cleanser. Excellent for my sensitive skin.
