Sports bra for large breasts

BunnytheHoneyBee · 28/04/2020 22:09

I’m a 32G and looking for a sports bra that will provide enough support for exercise such as running, skipping and body combat type exercise.

Any recommendations please?

I have one at the moment (the only one that fits me post pregnancy) from M&S fairly cheap from twin pack and it’s ok but I’d like more support.

TIA.

I find the Freya sports bras to be excellent, no bounce at all.

Shock Absorber is good too, possibly a bit more comfortable if I'm wearing it for a few hours, but not quite as secure and bounce free. But still much better than my M&S one.

Panache are my favorite but Freya are also very good (very similar). All the ones on the Bravissimo page are good.

The ones with the hook on the back to allow you to turn the bra into a racer back style are excellent as this allows you to increase the level of support as you need it.

I would advise, if you have never used this style of "strong construction" sports underwear to try a back band higher than you normally take. I am a 32 and like my back band to be snug. These sports bras have much less give and can be uncomfortable if you are wearing them for long periods (say long cycle ride or run). I have 32 and 34 sizes to wear according to the exercise I am doing. There is not that much difference in performance I feel but the larger size is more comfortable.

These are expensive bras, but they are very good, especially for high impact sport such as running. I have never looked back since I first tried them, but I also have very soft and mobile breasts that have a lot of movement so was very uncomforable exercising without this level of support. You can pick them up in sales for about half the price if you keep an eye out for them.

gassylady · 28/04/2020 22:29

Bravissimo inspire is great there are less lurid colour ways than the first in that link above! I agree that you may need to go up a size in the underband. I’ve had to get my other half to fasten mine for me when they are new😬

grafittiartist · 28/04/2020 22:33

I am the same size, and I go up a band size for sports bras. It's just more comfortable.
My favourite is a Debenhams own one, but I took the wiring out!

PeachesandPie · 28/04/2020 22:34

Shock absorber are brilliant. The only issue with them is sizing, if you usually use BOB measurement then you will need to go up a couple of band sizes.

BunnytheHoneyBee · 28/04/2020 22:40

What is BOB measurement?

Hadn’t thought of going up a back size but makes sense!

I’ve had shock absorber before and it was good but was DD then and now G...

These all sound great.

Feel like I need to wing it a bit and just order one given I can’t go to shops and try on. Tempted to wait for sale too though 😬😂

Bought a shock absorber recently and agree they are excellent

BunnytheHoneyBee · 28/04/2020 22:48

So the SA website has a questionnaire to help pick a bra which I love

And there is an outlet section on the Freya website which is good

I think if I can get one for now then that’s enough as I can get more in the sales although I manage to wash and wear one now anyway (I work out roughly it every other day)

I currently have a shock absorber one. I’m a 34jj and have one of theirs in a 36h. Fits okay but a bit tight.

Just bought another one tonight from pour moi, managed to get 36j so fingers crossed for this one. And it was only £22!

I’m having a reduction after all this is over, with Elanic, I can’t bloody wait

BunnytheHoneyBee · 28/04/2020 23:04

That’s nice BumDiggy similar to one I was looking at on the Freya site but couldn’t work out level of support. I’ll have a look.

I’m looking at these two;

www.freyalingerie.com/uk/en/active/sports-bras/crop-top-sports-bras/dynamic-soft-sports-bra/p/ac4014din/

But can’t decide so might have another look tomorrow

I hope it fits and good luck with your reduction!

Thank you!

I like the second one from your links.

Love they advertise big bras on people with small boobs. They’ll never look like that on us 😂

TileFloors · 29/04/2020 09:27

Agree that you should go up a band size.

The best I’ve found are the Anita 5527 Extreme Control bras. I’m a 32H or do and they’re the ones that keep everything more or less in place when I run. Not cheap, but you can often get them discounted at Amazon:

www.amazon.co.uk/Anita-Womens-Non-Wired-Sports-Black/dp/B001VH7TTQ/ref=sxts_sxwds-bia-wc-p13n1_0?psc=1&keywords=anita+5527&pd_rd_i=B001VH7TTQ&qid=1588148776&cv_ct_cx=anita+5527&dchild=1&pf_rd_p=3a0a9dc6-04df-4d23-94d9-19d7cd23aed1&pd_rd_wg=X1RNH&pf_rd_r=P0PXQRYF2PW14FR5PSC7&pd_rd_w=YjYQ7&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&pd_rd_r=4ffcc8b0-7cd8-4ab0-9fa7-07bbddf635d0&sr=1-1-e4abe256-0722-424e-a8a3-6caa9bba7df8

I’ve also had success with Shock Absorber in the past, especially the more crop-top style ones. The enormous standard one doesn’t work for me, and I don’t think the racer back ones go up to a H.

Poshjock · 29/04/2020 12:04

Bra construction is fascinating. Of the two Freya bras you have linked, I would go for the second. Mainly because you can see the support it offers. Moulded cups are good for shaping but I find no so much for support - you need compression fabric over it to hold everything in place as it were (remember I have very mobile boobs so if there is a gap anywhere - they will find it!). Seams in cups act like boning, providing a solid point of support. Look at the Freya bra: It is two upper seams running across the top - they are going to stop bounce significantly. The two vertical seams are providing lift from the root and also stop the "bottoming out" bounce. The direction run of the vertical seams are also providing some separation. I find separation vital for ventilation. The sports bras which provide compression only tend to smoosh my breasts together into flat monoboob which, during exercise, sweats and leaves the skin that is smooshed itchy after long exercise sessions.

If you want to see large bra sizes represented on a variety of models with very different body shapes and sizes - look at this site: (www.ewa-michalak.pl/main-eng.html)

Fabulous bra constrution, amazing looking bras and real representation of models.

I am your size and have an underwire panache bra with the magic racer-back clasp - it is revolutionary! I didn’t go up a back size - it is snug but fab for running and HIIT classes. I am in Oz but my local shop is doing online fittings, with free returns. Maybe bravissimo or similar can do the same?

fellyjish · 29/04/2020 12:28

I'm a 36FF and I don't buy anything other than the shock absorber non padded run bras. They're not completely ugly and work well for high impact stuff; running, HIIT workouts and netball.

BunnytheHoneyBee · 29/04/2020 12:36

I’m just thinking when I lash got measured at bravissimo I was a 32FF in the soft lacey kind of bras but a 32G in the firmer ones

So maybe will go for a 34FF in a sports bra rather than 34G

Thanks for the advice it’s really helping given I can’t go to a shop and try them / ask for help

So the second Freya one is a maybe and not a bad price...

Bravissimo’s got a few nice ones. It says returns for 90 days but it’s a bit of a faff isn’t it so I’d rather just try to get one

MrEzraGoldberg · 29/04/2020 12:46

The Enell is the only one that really holds everything in place for me. Pricey, but worth it. It's a compression style, but, boy, does it do the job. I'm the same size as you, though sometimes a GG and the size that fits me is the 1. They do sizing differently with Enell!

MissSmiley · 29/04/2020 12:55

I'm 32FF in normal bras and have a shock absorber in a 34 band but can't remember the cup size, I've two and they are the best for running
